Fire crews overnight fully contained the approximately 11-acre Terrero Fire, which was caused by lightning. Today, crews will begin to mop-up interior portions around the edges. Smoke is expected to be visible for a few days.

Six engine crews from Carson National Forest and New Mexico Forestry Division will be joined by the Carson Hotshots later today. A water dropping helicopter remains assigned.

Donating to the Friends of the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad allows us to continue our historic preservation, restoration, and interpretation work. The Friends is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. Your generosity over the years has helped us preserve history. We have six ways you can help through our Preserving the Narrow Gauge Past for the Future (PNGPF).

1. Work Session Support provides us with lumber, paint, bolts, nails, steel, and tools needed for volunteers to perform ongoing preservation work.
2. Historic Structures involves repairing and restoring buildings along the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad, including the repairs at Sublette and the reconstruction of the Cumbres Car Inspector's House.
3. General Operating Support is crucial as it provides funds for our small staff and necessary functions such as rent, accounting services, communications, insurance, and more.
4. Antonito Car Restoration Facility improvements have allowed us to continue upgrading this structure. Immediate needs include upgrading safety measures by installing a fall arrest system over track 4.
5. Major Restoration Projects involve restoring critical pieces of rolling stock and structures that will take several years to complete. These projects aim to preserve the C&TS's most fragile and distinctive historic assets. Among these projects are RPO 54 and Baggage Express 163.
6. Cumbres Trail Project jointly with Scouts BSA to complete it. This initiative entails a series of trails at Cumbres Pass that will allow visitors to walk around the Car Inspector's House, Snow Shed, and Section House.
