What a beautiful sunrise this morning. I called Blake and told him the big fish were biting early. We got on the water bout 5:20am and the bite was good till bout 8:45.

Blake won this trip at the Gudgel Benefit a couple months back. He brought his grandson, Jordan and they wanted to livescope for some big fish the early bite didn't disappoint. Jordan wanted to beat his PB and we got that done with a real nice summer crappie at 1.19lbs it was 14½" long but skinny.

We caught our fish on a Pop’s Crappie Jig’s in "BLEEDING SHAD" and Crappie Monster in "OZARK SMOKE".

Our fish were in 7-10ft in open water had to really look for them today as they were mixed in shad balls and chasing the shad around. ALL FISH WERE RELEASED!

Josh called and wanted to take Melissa out for a Birthday trip. What a Birthday she had.
We talked and made a plan to go livescope some bigger fish.

We got an early start cause we knew it was gunna get hot, it's a good thing cause by 9am it got tough for the bigger fish. We fished open water in 7-10ft lookin for roamers and the fish we did catch were chasing shad.

Our bait of choice was a Pop’s Crappie Jig’s in "BLEEDING SHINER".

We ended up with over 30 fish and 3 over 13". ALL FISH WERE RELEASED!

Came to Truman lake to fish the National Crappie League National Qualifier.

Prefishin went well tournament did not.

Less than desirable finish but came away with some much needed experience on Truman.

We had a great time met alot of new people, gained some new friends and reminisced with others.

Gregory Blaine Kaiser and I decided to drive down to Truman Lake and fish with the National Crappie League.

We have a had 2 decent days of prefishin and checkin out the lake. Goin into the tournament we thought we would be right there in the 6½lb range but we all know how boats are.

This morning we had some technical difficulties with some of my electronics around 8:15 and after a few phone calls and texts to Matt Jones with Stump Hunter Electronics we got it all diagnosed and off to get a cord we went. After we got it all fixed We lost 2 hours of fishin but tomorrow is another day. Gunna put our heads down and cover some water.

Had John and Zane out today to do some livescopin.

This morning was absolutely gorgeous and cool out. We were on the water early as we anticipated the boat traffic was gunna be busy and we were not disappointed as We had pleasure boaters out tubing and skiing at 8:30am.

All our fish were caught on 14' PRO SE Outlaw Crappie Poles paired with a 1/16oz Pop’s Crappie Jig’s in "BLEEDING SHINER" man what a deadly combination.

We fished open water 4-6ft as the fish were out chasing shad balls in the shallow water.

Chip's Marine is hands down one of the best shops around. Ive talked to Chip and April several times about my issue ive been having and wanted it fixed before I leave for Truman lake to fish the NCL on Tuesday. Took it in this morning and in less than 30min. It was fixed. Thank you guys for great customer service and quick turn around. Forever grateful.

Fished The final spring tournament for Springfield Crappie Club-Springfield IL Springfield Crappie-Club on lake decatur today.

The bite was tough for Brian Cleland and I and we caught our fish with Pop’s Crappie Jig’s in "GHOST SHINER" and "BLEEDING SHINER". We managed to get a 3rd place finish. Thanks Brian for fishin with me as always we have a blast on the boat.

Dave and Doug wanted to go out on a scouting mission on Lake Mattoon. We went and looked at the whole lake explaining different areas produce better in different seasons. Today after about 3½ hours of just lookin we went fishin.

We fished from 10 till 11:30 and had over 80 fish with 32 nice keepers.

We corked laydowns in spawning areas in 3-5fow and used Crappie Monster Small Fry in "OZARK SMOKE" on the 6'8 and 8'2 Outlaw Crappie Poles with 20lb K9 Fishing Products. The bite was fast a furious and alot of fun.

Today concluded a roller coaster ride of emotions over the weekend. To say that we are enthusiastic about crappie fishing would be grossly misrepresenting our passion for the sport. Saturday in the HOI Crappie Club on Shelbyville we bounced all around the lake for 7 hours looking for our next bigger fish and went to the scales with a less than desirable weight. As it turned out it was a tough day for most everyone and we had just enough weight to secure a third place finish. We fished 10-12ft most of the day our baits of choice were TOPHAT Jigs in "BLACK/SILVER SPARKLE and Crappie Monster Small fry in "OZARK SMOKE".

Going into today with higher expectations at the Lake Decatur Crappie Classic we were beside ourselves when at two in the afternoon we had again a weight that we were certain was just average. Down but not out we kept our heads down and continued to grind. In 39 minutes our day turned from sour to sweet upgrading five of our mediocre fish with five chunks that raised our weight by over 3lbs. The last fish in the boat ended up being the tournament big fish at 1.99. Combined with our other 6 fish we secured a 2nd place finish. Again it reaffirmed, Do good deeds to get good karma and NEVER ever quit till you have to. We caught all our fish in 8-10fow Bait of choice today was none other than a Pop’s Crappie Jig’s in "PINK BAITFISH" and "GHOST SHINER". Let me tell you Pop's makes one helluva of a hair jig.

Brian Cleland and I fished the Springfield Crappie-Club Springfield Crappie Club-Springfield IL tournament on Shelbyville today and come out with a win. We had 8.02lbs with a 1.74lb kicker. Thanks buddy for fishin with me it was a great time.

Gregory Blaine Kaiser and I fished the HOI Crappie Club tournament on Lake Decatur. We finished 3rd with 11.35lbs and a 2.42lb kicker. It was a slug fest for sure alot of BIG fish were caught and the lake record was broken many times.

We fished 8-10fow in open water and the fish were on the bottom. We used Pop’s Crappie Jig’s in "GHOST SHINER". Crappie Monster Small fry in "MARGARITA". TOPHAT Jigs guppy in "BLACK/SILVER". Alot of fish would short strike the Jigs and then they wouldn't bite again so we had a minnow rig rigged up and they hammered the minnow.

WOW. Was it windy lol. Gregory Blaine Kaiser and I fished the Springfield Crappie Club-Springfield IL Springfield Crappie-Club bash on Decatur today. We fought the wind all day and ended up in 2nd place with a 10.24lb bag and a 2.12lb kicker. Congrats to Brian Cleland and Shawn on 1st.

SORRY FOR THE LONG POST BUT AS YOU WILL SEE IT WAS WORTH IT.

I've been in touch with HD BROWN the winner of the Wishes on Wheels auction benefit and he told me he wanted to go for a big fish trip. I said lets go now. BIG FISH ARE BITIN.

The day started of with HD up 1st. When he got the hang of were and how everything worked he was catching fish in no time. After a few tune up fish we found some good fish and one of them ended up being his PB with a 1.64lb slab. Congrats HD on your new PB bud it was a an honor to spend the day with you and John.

After the excitement of HD catching his PB John Peeler was up to bat and what can i say bud it was a day that none of us will ever forget.
John and I were focused in on 2 fish that were 20ft apart from each other and they were good ones. As we were coming up to those I saw a giant and I told John to raise his bait away. Should've seen the look on his face cause they were big but he didn't see what I saw.
As we got closer to the big one I kept telling him to stay calm and act like it was just another fish (but in my mind i knew it was a biggin he just didn't know how big it was) he got the bait just up to it and it turned and hammered the Pop’s Crappie Jig’s in "PINK BAITFISH".
I netted the fish and "WOW" the shock and awe hit all 3 of us. The celebration began with alot of hoopin/ hollerin/ high fives and hugs all around and I knew that Mr.Peeler had just caught his PB.

Congrats to HD on his PB of a 1.64lb slab and to JOHN on his new PB of a 2.26lb stud.

Beautiful mornin on the lake this mornin with the birthday girl Ashley.
We are out here having a ball and she beat her PB with a 1.72lb slab white and the morning has just began congrats girl and Happy Birthday.

UPDATE

Ashley Priest put a BDAY whopping on some crappie. It was a day that most anglers dream of and Ashley got to experience that on her special day. We had a 2 man limit in less than an hour. The rest of the morning we went after big fish. She had 5 fish over 1.60lb with a big fish of 1.84lb. Congrats on NEW PB TWICE TODAY.

What a day. Road trip started at 415 am. Stopped and picked up Nick Saupe a veteran i have had out many times along with a few tournaments but this time we got to take his 12 year old son with us. The 1st stop of the day was on a lake to prefish for a tournament. On our way home stopped by another lake and wanted his boy to catch some fish and he put a whooping on some crappie. It did not disappoint in a short time we put a triple limit in the boat. Thanks Nick for your service. Appreciatcha

Thank you to everyone that came by the G&G Outdoors booth at CrappieFest 2024 this weekend to benefit the Lake Shelbyville Fish Habitat Alliance. It was a great time a great success and a great showing for the Lake.

The wife and I decided to fish the Magnolia Crappie Club at Sardis and had a blast. It was our 1st tournament together and for our 1st one the weather was terrible.. After a great week of weather come tournament day it changed dramatically the Winds were north at 18mph and the waves were big lol. Didn't get the finish we had hoped for but 18th out of 58 wasn't to bad for our 1st one as a team. Luv ya babe can't wait to do it again.
