We go overland from Nagasaki north on Kyushu Island to the city of Fukuoka, which sits on the East China Sea. On our way we stop by the mountain town of Arita, famous for the blue and white Japanese Porcelain. After a casual lunch, we visit the beautiful Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine and enjoy the dynamic and fun shopping street. We have a fun night out with unlimited drinks, 10± courses with wonderful Wagu Beef cooked at the table on open grills.

It's touring in the fascinating and vibrant city of Nagasaki today starting with a visit to the historical and stunning Glover House Gardens and Oura Church. Afterwards we explore Dejima Island, where traders in the 1600s were sequestered not being allowed on Japanese soil. After a private buffet lunch, we visit the Peace Park complex, the hypo center for the atomic bombing of the city. The city has a tropical feel with the temperature almost 80 today..

After a night in the heart of the mountains near Takachiho Gorge we spend the morning exploring the gorge and the cave holding the Amano Iwato Shrine. We have a wonderful tatami room tempura lunch and afterward we drive to the coast and cross the Ariake Sea by fast ferry. We have a scenic drive into Nagasaki, our next destination.

Departing Hiroshima this morning we board the bullet train to Kokura on Japans Southern island of Kyushu. On this beautiful and lush island our first stop is the thermal area at "Boiling Hells" hot springs. After lunch, we continued to the monkey sanctuary where everyone was entertained by hundreds of monkeys. After a BBQ dinner, we walk to the Shinto Shrine for an evening UNESCO performance of a legend. We overnight in Takachiho

After arriving in Hiroshima yesterday we set out to explore this modern historical city surrounded by mountains and water. We take a ferry to see the Shinto shrine (built 539 ad) on the island of Itsukushima, best known for its "floating" torii gate seen in many Japan images. We have a fun cooking class making Okonomiyaki pancakes and then visit the touching memorial museum at the Hiroshima bomb site.

After three days in Kyoto, we drive to the first capital of Japan, Nara to explore Todaiji Temple and visit Nara Deer Park where 1500 of these cute four legged friends live in the open city. Afterwards we continue to nearby Osaka to explore Osaka Castle Museum before stepping aboard Japan's legendary Shinkensen (bullet train) for a 172 mph journey to Hiroshima.

Stewart Tours travelers have an amazing day as we arrange for everyone to be custom dressed in Kimonos as we attend the Kyoto Jidai Matsuri Festival. The parade features 2000 participants dressed in historic costumes covering 1000 years of Japanese history. Our first full day of touring in Kyoto has us visiting the Kiyomizu Temple known as the temple of pure water. We stroll through the UNESCO bamboo forest and see the kimona forest art display. After lunch we walk the grounds of the stunning Golden Pavilion Shrine followed by an unforgettable private visit with Maeko (Geisha in Training) including tea ceremony, dance and Q&A

Departing Kanazawa located on the Sea of Japan we head south for the historic capitol of Japan, Kyoto. We enjoy a sake brewery tasting and a visit to the beautiful Fushima Inari Shrine with the stunning Tori gates you might have seen in the movie Memoirs of a Geisha. In Kyoto we witness an incredible and touching theatrical show at the Gear Theater.

We have a full day of touring in the coastal city of Kanazawa. The day starts out with one of the three most beautiful park gardens in Japan, Kenrokuen. After a buffet lunch the group has lots of fun with a gold leaf workshop which Kanazawa is famous for before we walk the Samurai district and visit the historic Nomura Samurai House.

We start the morning off at the Takayama morning market that runs along the local river. Afterwards we visit the UNESCO world heritage site of Shirakawa-go, a fairytale village with houses scattered across a stunning mountain valley. Some travelers also hike up to the viewpoint overlooking the village before we continue to the western coast at Kanazawa.

After an overnight at a traditional Japanese Inn (Ryokan) we tour Motsumoto Castle a national treasure before crossing the Japanese Alps into the mountain town of Takayama. We explore the beautiful Edo Period Government offices and then enjoy exploring and shopping in the atmospheric old town.

We leave Tokyo heading south west into the area surrounding Mt. Fuji.. We have incredible luck as the mountain is only visible roughly 80 days of the year. We ride the Hakone Ropeway, visit Lake Kawaguchi and then check-in to a traditional Onsen Japanese Inn having a fun kaiseki dinner. Some travelers enjoy the Hot Springs at the hotel.

Our second full day is packed with sights across Tokyo. We visit the outer park surrounding the Emperor's Palace, have a walk in the woods to see tranqui Meiji Shrine and witness the crazy Shibuya Scramble crosswalk in central Tokyo. We also visited trendy Harajuku’s Takesh*ta District with the Anime fashions and ended the day transported into another world of light and sound at the Teamlabs Digital art gallery.

Our first full day in Tokyo is full of fun as we explore Tsukiji Outer Market, have a private sushi making experience with lunch, visit beautiful Asakusa Sensoji Temple and then travel up the Tokyo SkyTree (1500ft) to see the city from above..
