Disney's 8-minute cartoon "Petal to the Metal" is released along with Touchstone Pictures' martial arts comedy feature "3 Ninjas."

“Petal to the Metal" features a slapstick cartoon cat named Bonkers D. Bobcat (voiced by Jim Cummings) - whose simple task of delivering flowers turns into a string of catastrophes.

The live-action "3 Ninjas" tells the story of three young brothers who learn martial arts from their Japanese grandfather. Starring Victor Wong, Michael Treanor, Max Elliott Slade and Chad Power, it will be the only "3 Ninjas" film released by Touchstone (the others will be released by TriStar Pictures).

July 24, 2016:
Marni Nixon, a singer best known for being a "ghost vocalist" for featured actresses in movie musicals, passes away at age 86 in New York City.

She supplied the singing voice of leading actresses on the soundtracks of several hit musicals, including Deborah Kerr in "The King and I," Natalie Wood in "West Side Story," and Audrey Hepburn in "My Fair Lady." (Although studio executives insisted that Nixon sign a contract, swearing her to secrecy, she began to get public recognition for her voice work.) Her Disney credits included a vocal performance as Grandmother Fa in the 1998 Disney film "Mulan." Nixon also performed on such Disneyland Records as "Songs From Walt Disney's Mary Poppins" and "The Story and Songs of Walt Disney's Mary Poppins."

Before her Hollywood days and long afterward, Nixon was an acclaimed concert singer, a specialist in contemporary music who appeared as a soloist with the New York Philharmonic. She was the mother of singer/songwriter Andrew Gold, best known for his songs "Thank You For Being a Friend" and "Lonely Boy."
