This week we kick off Community Risk Reduction Week. A national grass roots initiative to increase awareness on how the community along with fire departments can reduce the chances of a fire destroying your home and property. Everyday this week we will be focusing on a different aspect of the initiative. Together we can reduce the risk of your home and property.

We printed a limited number of the water feasibility studies ourselves and they are now available at the Chemult Post Office on the table in the lobby and will be at the Lantern Trailer Park laundry mat later this afternoon.
Note: There are separate studies for Chemult and for Beaver Marsh and this is indicated on the cover. Please take only the one for your area as copies are limited. The county will be bringing more copies on Friday to the meeting as we do not have enough toner to print more right now.

Please note: This is SOLELY a Klamath County project, based on a grant they, Klamath County, applied for. This Klamath County project is not affiliated in any way, shape, or form with the Chemult Community & Tourism Association or Chemult Bible Fellowship where the meeting is being held. Our involvement is just helping out with a facility to hold the meeting at and with sending out flyers. Any questions or concerns about the project will be addressed by Klamath County at the meeting. Thank you.

Last fall when we first learned of the library's plans we were saddened however we understood their reasoning. But then as our CCTA team met together and begin to brainstorm ideas for the old Chemult schoolhouse building we got excited!!!

A little history on the building. The building served as the Chemult school from 1929 until 1939 when the Gilchrist school was completed and students were bused there. Since that time the building has served as a community center with many events held there, a day care center, temporary Forest service headquarters (1960-1961 while the current FS building was under construction), temporary church (while the current one was built in 1975-1976), and finally the library.

There are many stories about the adventure of moving the building to it's current location and the community getting it ready for the Chemult 60th Anniversary Celebration in 1986.

So what did we decide? We have decided to restore it back to being a community center. We are calling it "The Old School House-A Community Gathering Place." We have some great ideas for community activities, possibly community education classes, bingo, etc.

Once the library is moved out at the end of February we will be doing some renovations inside. We will keep you updated on our progress and when the grand opening will be. We wish the best success to the new Crescent library pictured below.

Dear Community,

We regret to inform you that the Chemult Library will be permanently closing its doors on January 31st, 2025.

However, we are excited to share that a new chapter is beginning! We are thrilled to announce the opening of the Crescent Library.

The new library will open its doors on Saturday February 8th, 2025.

We invite you to visit the Crescent Library at 136854 N. Highway 97, Crescent, where you'll continue to find a warm, welcoming environment for reading, learning, and community engagement.

Thank you for your understanding, and we look forward to seeing you at our new library!

Sincerely,
Klamath County Library staff

(PS: When we move in, we are keeping the bear on the roof. How could you not?!)
