Visiting the museum (once home) of the "mother of the Civil Rights Movement"- Mrs. Lillie Carroll Jackson in Baltimore, MD is a hidden gem indeed! Mrs. Jackson dedicated her life to the civil rights movements as the president of the Baltimore branch of the NAACP! She exhibited a love and passion for the community that helped to shape the freedom we experience today!🖤🖤

Sixth graders visited the museum today! We discussed Mr. Dusable and ways to live out his legacy, the underground railroad, the Fugitive Slave Law of 1850 and the Civil War🖤 and boy oh boy are they filled with questions and comments 😅

Education is the foundation to one's future! Segregation in Chicago poured in Chicago Public Schools. The effect is damaging. We are still living in a city that perpetuates inequality. My own neighborhood is a perfect example. So..the work continues here at the Black Chicago Museum 🖤

seventh graders were so much fun today! We discussed Chicago as a safe haven, the Black laws of Illinois and city's developing infrastructure during the antebellum period. it was a great pleasure to listen to the many comments and questions! Young people have a lot to say!🖤
