It's that time of year when we can't help but post the last dahlias because they are so precious and we can't believe anything in the world is so beautiful amidst all the world turmoil. And so, one more dahlia harvest from the garden today. These are my very favorites of all.

However you celebrate this weekend, may it be full of love, peace, connection, and understanding. We all share responsibility for our wholeness on this whole Earth. All of the holidays this time of year are actually celebrating rebirth, renewal, and resilience of nature and life through periods when we are not as close to the sun. The world does not revolve around religions or any individual humans. Life revolves around the sun, as a collective whole cycle.

I make food too remind us that it is the source of all life. A pie or quiche, round and whole, a planet. The chives and day lily shoots are up in the garden, my rosemary made it through the winter still alive under their leaf protective gear. So many lives and work go into making one simple quiche - the wheat, butter, eggs, pork from humans tending the life of grain fields, cows, pigs, chickens. The potatoes had a collaboration with the sun and microorganisms and nutrients in the soil. The spinach and herbs sensing the longer days, and in their will to grow, turning sun into food. We depend on each part of the whole. We depend on each other and nature. We depend upon freedom to grow and live. We depend upon the freedom of Ukraine.

All I think about is and the war. And peace and the sticky green buds of resistance in spring. To my beloved clients waiting for emails, I'm moving slowly but surely sending love to you as I also send it to Ukraine.

The blossoms are still opening on this amaryllis and I am hoping the awareness of our interdependence in the hearts of each member of humanity is also growing, petal by petal, painful bomb by bomb.

Today explained in his address to Italy that there will be more famine far outside Ukraine if Putin is not stopped. The world network depends on the grain and sunflower oil and other agricultural products that are grown in the fields currently being bombed and filled with mines. We depend on nature for power, food, and energy - the way fruit depends on the balance of pollinators. I believe in that peaceful world where the fields can be planted and people can have access to food and safety, and the independence ‐the true freedom of living beings- that comes from embracing our interdependence with nature and each other. The world can't eat if the fields can't be planted, if the pollinators cannot safely reach the flowers that need their assistance to grow into our food. 🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦

Please witness and watch his daily addresses and updates. My world and the entire world is illuminated and bettered by his ability to inspire, learn, and communicate the essence and interconnectedness of all life on Earth. I want there to be growth in our network of human consciousness, like tree roots growing and communicating with each other when the blue sky and yellow sun provide the light, water, warmth, and nourishment that tell them it is safe to grow.

I plant an amaryllis bulb every year and say out loud, “things will be better when it blooms.” I believe in the power of nature. I envision the war ending as each blossom opens. White for peace, red in remembrance of the people who have been lost and the suffering of the people of Ukraine. For all suffering. Blue, yellow, freedom, sun sky.

He is giving daily updates on the war to his people, but Zelenskiy is also appealing to what it means to be connected and human on this Earth. He has talked about the harshness of spring as a season that leads to growth. He spoke about the need to make plans to plant the fields with crops and grain that feed the region, and the importance of believing in the harvest. He has described the natural process in which the cycles and balance of nature allow for seeds to grow and people to dream and hope. Putin will ultimately fail, he explained, because the life force of freedom and hope organically makes any attempt to dominate it unsustainable. This message is not just about the war. This also speaks to our future on the planet. Life depends upon the food we eat and the water we drink, the land we live upon, and the sun that warms us and provides the energy to grow the food we eat, and our connection to the rest of the world (from pollinators to medicines). No human can survive alone and without these basic keys to life, no matter how much money or ability to dominate and destroy they amass.

I want the seeds of unity and connectedness to grow. The awareness that war destroys the aggressor as well as the attacked. That destroying or dominating other living beings and ecosystems is weakness, never power. (Continued in comments below)

It was such a treat to have time to take photos during this beautiful wedding! The triple ceremony kiss and JB the dog for the win! Can't wait for the pro photos from @sophiecazottes The couple wanted the feeling and colors to be reflective of Lake Michigan, the beach, wild flowers, and native grasses, with light summery pastels and pops of brighter colors. The very talented bride sews and makes all kinds of beautiful things, so we incorporated some of her fabric into the wedding arbor. She also dyed the gorgeous fabric behind the seating chart. Then instead of a guest book, she had every guest write their name on a quilt square which she will later embroider and then sew into a big quilt of love commemorating their wedding day. I grew all of the zinnias, dahlias, and cosmos from seeds and tubers in my gardens. Few things make me happier than picking the first dahlias. But the most exciting part was making the neck garland for JB the dog. He was a star and wore it the whole time. I collected the beach glass on the altar and the sweetheart table from years of beach walks. Laura @sew_lovely_laura is the most amazing creative partner and makes everything sooooo lovely. Congratulations to Andrew and Kelsey! We loved being part of your celebration and helping you express your creativity and individuality. You are both so awesome!
