After a few days of rest and respite over Christmas, we returned to the build this weekend. After prepping more ceiling wood Friday and Saturday, we started hanging t&g in the great room today. Happy New Year from !

More exciting progress at today. The guys from Royal Roofing finished the metal roof on both carports, and Gina got two coats of stain on the West cabin stairs. We'll be screwing deck boards down under the lights tonight - almost 60F tomorrow, but 4 inches of snow expected on Thanksgiving Day. We're racing time and the elements!

Great progress this weekend at . Gina's dad and I kicked things off Thursday building a wind/privacy screen on the East deck. We then turned our attention to steps for the West building, wrapping up that project Friday afternoon. Gina and I then hit the painting job on the East building hard, wrapping up everything by Sunday night. Winter is paying a visit in just a few days - we'd like to get things completely stained outside before cold weather hits. Up next? Applying finish to the wood we're using for the ceiling. Getting the lid finished will be a major milestone. Go, go, go!

Decks are nearly complete on both units. Next up: sand and stain both decks, then build stairs. Sheetrock should start this week on the East unit now that HVAC is roughed in. keeps chugging toward completion!

One advantage of building on property adjacent to our country home is sitting back at the end of a long day and surveying a job well done. Our Creator created us to work, to create, to build - it's fulfilling to see the work of your hands raise something that will hopefully one day bring joy and peace to others. Here's a side profile of the East unit at . The car ports went up this week, we got the last deck board down Saturday, and all the East unit windows are trimmed out. Water, sewer, and electric are all roughed in and we set doors Thursday and Friday. With that, we can call East dried in!

After we stained posts and beans for the carports over the weekend, Gina's dad and our contractor made excellent progress today on the first unit. It's great to see the final profile of the houses start to take shape at .

Made some headway on the East Unit's deck today at . It's fun to see the vision start to come together, even though we're getting a little weary as we race o get the exterior wrapped up before cold sets in.

After 2 months of staining and caulking (2.Entire.Months!), we are moving on to building the deck on the West unit. Good to put the caulking task behind us - whose idea was it to use 6 inch square timbers, anyway? Oh, well - further up and further in! (That's an obscure CS Lewis reference for those in the know.)

A Super Blue Moon rises over . Royal Roofing has finished the roof on the West unit, bringing that phase of the project to a close. Next up is site water, sewer, and electricity trenching and connection now that the extension of city utilities is complete. With Fall in sight, we're rushing to get the West unit caulked, the last window installed, and exterior doors hung to completely dry-in both units before the weather turns.

After several long days, we finally wrapped up the caulking project on the East unit. Royal Roofing also wrapped up the shingles on the East unit this week. That leaves trim, carport, and deck to complete the exterior on East. Next up: West unit!

It's been a second since I've posted an update on our progress with the build at . Our primary focus is on the East unit right now, although we are also working to dry-in the West unit before fall. On the East unit, soffit and fascia are complete, windows are in, and everything but the front windows have flashing (ready for trim). Inside, we have insulated, tacked up furring strips, and added blocking to the framing for strength and for ease of hanging cabinets, shelves, and towel bars. All utilities are in except electricity, with some progress made on that front Friday but more to do this week The West unit has windows (one back-ordered) and Royal Roofing is working to finish its soffit and fascia. We just keep chipping away...

Well, it's taken a minute (two weeks, actually), but today we wrapped up the application of stain and clear coat on our modern cabins at . That means tomorrow we roll into the next phase: caulking every seam, joint, and check with Conceal from . Meanwhile, windows are onsite and insulation should be delivered on Monday (city code requires us to add insulation to the interior walls). Let's keep it moving!

So our entire downtown Cody property is fully booked for next July 4th - almost a full year in advance! But don't fret - we're working hard on our Country property to have it ready for next summer. We won't start taking reservations for next summer until later this fall - keep an eye on our web site (link in bio) to be the first to book!

After three separate coats, we finally have most of the West Unit's stain job complete. Tomorrow, just a few deck posts and one small wall and we're ready to start the final clear coat on the East Unit.

Not a fan of rain when I'm trying to get a multi-day staining job done, but this view from the West unit at makes it a little easier to wait for the storm to blow over.

It may not look like much, but the three items in the foreground (sewer, fire hydrant, and water curb stops) represent over two years of effort to get to this point. It's very satisfying to see them finally stubbed out on our property. Next up: electricity (natural gas and fiber optic are already close by). - country feel with city services!

Stainapalooza phase 1 at this weekend. Fold in seven turnovers for our town properties and a staining window that closes at 85 degrees, and you have the makings of a crazy weekend. Two more coats to go, then we get to caulk every seam. Whew!
