We are Lance and Jamie Mayhew and this is ReinWorker Performance Horses of Coleman, MI. Early in our marriage we decided the horse industry would be a part of our life. Lance:
I have a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from Saginaw Valley State University. I have been involved with horses from early on in my childhood. After high school, I began buying and training horses. I studied
the methods of Clinton Anderson, Buck Brannaman and Al Dunning. I borrowed what worked for me and developed my own method of forming relationships with horses. In order to train a horse, I believe that a relationship must be formed. A horse has to trust the trainer, and the trainer the horse. I will always trust a horse until it gives me a reason not to; if you act nervous, so will the horse. My specialty is working with horses from birth to three years. I thoroughly enjoy working with young horses and being a part of their development. Much like educating young students, a young horse is able make big progress in a short amount of time. I would like to implement a program for students of all ages to work with horses and believe that children and horses have a lot to gain from another. I have a Bachelor of Business Administration in Management from Saginaw Valley State University. My experience with horses was limited until I met Lance. I enjoy riding and working with foals; I could spend hours with foals. I enjoy photography and have taken most of the photographs on the website. I help when I can and have the same training mindset as Lance; I guess you could say I studied the methods of Lance Mayhew. While I haven't studied the well known trainers and clinicians, I believe what I have learned while I have been with him has served me well in our endeavor. Where the sun always shines...
We love to talk horses. The horse business isn't always easy, and its good to get other people's perspectives. We learn something new from every call. We don't know it all, and wish to never stop learning.
