Happy Birthday Columbus! On this day in 1812 (2/14) the Ohio legislature passed and signed into law the legislation that designated a new permanent home for the capital of Ohio, thus the “birth” of Columbus. They moved it from Chillicothe to a more central location on a high bank overlooking the Scioto River opposite the small village of Franklinton and named it Columbus. It would be a few more years until the first buildings would be completed and government actually moved here.
