We have been experiencing the most amazing fall weather with beautiful sunsets, the change of colors and temperatures that all the creatures seem to enjoy.

Farm Friday.
Fall has arrived at the farm ~ my favorite time of the year. This morning the air has a crisp feel and the leaves are beginning to change.

Last weekend, I enjoyed a day on the tractor mowing our fields for the last time this season. Time on the tractor is a chance for me to clear my mind, think about upcoming projects and simply enjoy a “technology-free” zone.

Tonight marks my 5th year attending Savor Pittsburgh ~ a culinary & cocktail event created 14 years ago by Michelle & Ricky Kirsop with Christina Dickerson to benefit charitable organizations. For the 8th year, this event benefits Magee-Womens Research Institute & Foundation.

Today marks the first day of Autumn, my favorite time of the year. It’s evident the season is changing with the coolness in the evening air and the changes in leaves. Last night, we enjoyed an evening kayak to bring Summer 2019 to a close.

Today is World Gratitude Day. I would like to express my gratitude for all of the organizations who are making a difference for others. This week, Christina Dickerson and I had the privilege of being one of the sponsors for the Lending Hearts Top Golf Tournament. Lending Hearts is an organization that Christina has been involved with since it began and one that makes a tremendous impact on the lives of children battling cancer or in remission of cancer. The work they do to help bring happy moments to these children and their families is truly remarkable.

For Lending Hearts and other organizations, I am truly grateful.

I have always said that the key to a successful career is to never stop learning. That’s one of the many reasons that I am proud that Christina Dickerson and I are involved with this upcoming event, Celebrating Provident.

Provident Charter School: Designed for Students with Dyslexia is one of its kind in Pittsburgh. It is designed for children with language-learning challenges, like dyslexia. The event will take place on Friday, October 18th at Longue Vue Club. We’d love to see you there ~ if you or your company are interested in becoming involved, please send me a private message.

It’s bonfire and s’mores season on the farm.

Last weekend, we had cooler temps in Pittsburgh and enjoyed the first bonfire of the season. Looking forward to a Fall of evenings surrounding the firepit with friends and family!

Over the last week, I have found myself in numerous conversations about the projected path of Hurricane Dorian. We’ve been watching closely as my Mom lives in Florida, we have numerous friends with homes along the Florida coastline and my sister-in-law and brother-in-law have a home at Isle of Palms. Needless to say, each morning I look at the projected landfall map.

Just like with a hurricane - the preparation and protection of your business needs to take place well before the “storm”.

I have recently been asked to speak on the topic of Business Continuity and Resiliency. It’s forward-thinking, it’s preparing for the “what-if’s” and creating a strategy that minimizes or eliminates the impact on business operations when the potential disruptions occur.

In the meantime, my thoughts are with the people of the Bahamas. And, I hope Hurricane Dorian sheds its strength before it makes landfall along the Florida, Georgia and South Carolina Coastline.

Happy National Dog Day.
There are numerous statistics regarding the health benefits of owning a dog. Studies show that dog owners become sick less frequently, tend to exercise more, have better mental health because of the joy their dog brings into their life and more. Here’s what I can say, Hope has brought our family a great amount of happiness from Day 1. Here’s to appreciating our four-legged companions.

Farm Friday:

Most evenings, you can find me on the front porch watching the deer and their babies grazing in the fields.

Hope is always relaxed by my side ~ it’s entertainment for her as well. And, check out the moon! We caught this using our telescope last weekend!

If your home is like ours, there’s technology in every room. We use Alexa to set our timers while cooking, we have an alarm that tells us someone is driving up the driveway, the Roomba is busy each morning cleaning up Hope’s hair (especially during this time of the year) and we talk to the television instead of “flipping channels.”

It’s true. I’m a leftie.

Apparently, there are numerous facts about being a left-handed person that I didn’t know ... until today when I was reading this article.

It’s says:
Lefties tend to be competitive ☑️
Lefties are typically creative and think outside the box ☑️
Lefties tend to be ambidextrous (we didn’t have a choice) ☑️
Lefties have a good sense of direction, finding their way from Point A - Point B ☑️

Only about 10% - 12% of the world are lefties. Isn’t it funny that both Christina Dickerson of Dickerson Creative Communications and I both lefties?!

Farm Friday:

It is such a privilege to have a garden - it’s a peaceful place where I can think and decompress. We have been enjoying peas, green beans, tomatoes, corn, cucumbers and more all summer! What I am really excited about are the watermelons, cantaloupes and pumpkins that are on the vine!

We have a few varieties of pumpkins, but the ones I am most anxious about are called Atlantic Giants! They can be over 500 pounds!

One of my most enjoyable activities since launching DCC Executive Consulting has been the speaking engagements.

Everyone has a story. Those stories provide a personable way to connect with other people. I have learned that it is the people and partnerships - not the technology, that create change and drive innovation.

It’s simple. I enjoy sharing my story, my knowledge and my experiences in technology/executive leadership. My journey in business and life has provided me with invaluable lessons to pass on to others.

I have had the great fortune of being the CIO of three large companies and in 2019, I became an entrepreneur as a small business owner.

Today marks Hope’s halfway point on her recovery and rehab from TPLO surgery. I’m happy that she’s now able to do 20 minute walks twice a day. We had a nice start to the day.

To celebrate my birthday, Christina Dickerson and I spent the weekend enjoying Mother Nature boating, kayaking and fishing. We spotted another majestic Bald Eagle ~ this time at Pymantuning Lake. Thank you for all of the messages, texts and calls over the weekend.
