Figlio Wood-Fired Pizza

Figlio Wood-Fired Pizza "Pizza and pasta heaven otherwise known as Figlio" - The Columbus Dispatch Figlio Wood Fired Pizza was founded in 1991 by Peter and Laurie Danis. Food and wine.

Peter and Laurie first met at Ohio State University’s College of Law. Their courtship centered around cooking meals at Peter’s apartment before hitting the law books each night. Little did they know that they would eventually trade their law books for cookbooks and find happiness in the kitchen rather than the courtroom. Peter and Laurie graduated from law school and practiced law for a number of

years. On the evening of the birth of their first child, they decided to leave their successful legal careers to open a gourmet pizza/pasta restaurant in Columbus. Their decision was driven by a desire to experience the same passion and excitement on a daily basis as they felt that evening. For the next two years, they traveled throughout North America pursuing the art of gourmet pizza making. Their research included course work at the Natural Foods Cookery School in New York City. In November of 1991, they opened the first Figlio Wood Fired Pizza in Columbus and it was an overnight success. In 1996 Peter and Laurie opened their second location of Figlio Wood Fired Pizza in the Columbus suburb of Upper Arlington, which has been used as a prototype for additional restaurant development. Their newest Figlio location opened in Dayton in the fall of 2003. Figlio has consistently been named as one of the top ten restaurants by the Columbus Dispatch. Additionally, the Zagat Survey publication named Figlio Wood Fired Pizza as the top gourmet pizza in Columbus. Peter, Laurie and their staff have been featured as the cover story in the August 1992 and September 1999 editions of the international trade publication Pizza Today. Peter and Laurie’s passion for food and wine continued with the opening of Vinovino, a restaurant/winebar located next to the original Figlio in Grandview. Wine and food. And the two shall become one.....Peter and Laurie look forward to seeing you at Figlio or Vinovino tonight!

A special pizza inspired by a special day! Our Total Eclipse of The Heart. Torn prosciutto, potatoes, white cheddar an charred red onions finished with sriracha aoili sauce to kick up the heat. And how fun is the "sun"! No special glasses needed to eat it (except maybe wine glasses?!) Served through Monday, April 8th -- and not again until 2044!

The time has come for us to move on to new opportunities and make room for the redevelopment of the Golden Bear Center in Upper Arlington!
We will serve our last order of Chicken Diablo in Arlington on July 29th. After that, you'll need to reserve a table in Grandview or Kettering to get your fix!
You enhanced our lives in many ways and gave us the opportunity to work with such a great staff for 28 years. (Many of our staff will be transferring to our Grandview location!)
Great food, great service, great memories!
Thank you for being part of the Figlio Family!

Every problem has a solution.

Problem: You love Blackened Salmon but you had your heart set on pizza tonight.
Solution: Order this pizza! It rocks!

Blackened Salmon on an olive oil brushed crust with Mozzarella, Parmesan, and Chevre as well as capers, roasted red peppers, sliced scallions and a drizzle of housemade horseradish sauce.

If only all problems could be solved this easily!

Inspired by a fantastic cocktail we enjoyed last week with Dayton-made, handcrafted Buckeye Vodka. We created a pasta dish of linguine in a Buckeye Vodka/tomato/parmesan cream sauce with blackened chicken, chopped red peppers, roma tomatoes, and fresh spinach.
(Now I can't decide which I liked more --
the cocktail or the pasta!)

I made a BIG mistake when I took our Spicy Tomato/Blackened Chicken Pasta off the menu. I never realized how many people LOVE this dish made with artichoke hearts, spinach, kalamata olives, spinach, and feta cheese. I need to thank all those who texted, emailed and called me asking for its return. Done! It's on special this week and will be back on the main menu in July. Lesson learned!

Thirty Years Ago today Laurie and I opened Figlio Grandview. We were attorneys in our mid-thirties 30 with a dream of starting a wood fired pizza and pasta restaurant with our 3-year old and 6-month old daughters in tow. (Sound easy?) Our formula was simple: Hire nice people and serve great food. It worked. Given the fact that I had never worked in a restaurant until opening night, I attribute our longevity to the people we hired then, as well as the people we hired for the next 30 years. Ted, Tracy, Jp, Susan, and John paved the way for other young people to pay their college tuition, make life-long friends, and in many cases – fall in love with the person who would become their spouse. Thank you to all of you who have worked at Figlio over the past 30 years and thank you to all of you who have dined with us each night. It’s truly been a dream come true! (If you had a favorite server or a favorite menu item at Figlio, please give them a shout out!) And feel free to share this post with others.

Last Saturday all our High School bussers and dishers requested off so they could go to their Homecoming Dance. Our Arlington Kitchen Manager, Andrew, embraced the Figlio culture of putting the needs of our staff first. He and several of our college line cooks were willing to wash a mountain of dishes, pots, and pans at the end of the night to make this happen. Doable – but exhausting! Laurie and I showed up at 5pm with a different idea. I washed dishes. Laurie bussed tables. We had a blast – and everyone got to go to the dance! This is the Figlio culture. Everyone looks out for one another. (Please share this with your friends.)

Cooking with Friends.
Our formula is really quite simple: Create an environment based on respect, appreciation, and joyful living. Make a part time job something to look forward to. Finish the night with a smile knowing you've worked alongside people (mostly students!) who may become your lifelong friends.
