My Father's Daughter Designs

My Father's Daughter Designs Reclaimed Wood Designs My name is Kristine and I have lived in Columbus, Ohio for 15 years.

I am a typical Gemini, having many interests, but I think that is a good thing! I went to art school back in the day, but ended up on a long road of educational endeavors, up to and including PhD coursework. I have always had a creative outlet to focus on in my free time, but for the past 15 years or so, that outlet has been cooking and crocheting. Growing up, my father was often in his workshop b

uilding things with wood after he got home from his day job. I was always amazed by the things he created and was thrilled when he would allow me to tinker alongside him in his workshop as he taught me a thing or two. The time we spent together are some of my fondest memories and helped foster my love of woodworking and inspired my business’ name: My Father’s Daughter. In addition to my love of creating things, I am also an environmentalist at heart. Having worked in the food industry for years, I saw many beautiful pallets come and go, and I always wondered what would become of them once they were rendered unusable. About a year ago, on a whim, I brought a pallet home, deconstructed it (which is no easy task!), cleaned and sanded the planks of wood and created a planter box for our yard. It often garners compliments and inquiries from guests, but is so heavy I could never ask someone to pay for shipping for it! After adding a puppy to my family this summer, I found that I needed a handy place to store her leash, sweater and treats, so I made a leash and treat holder from pallet wood and hung it by the back door for easy access. Again, I received many compliments and inquiries from guests and fellow pet lovers, and I thought maybe I should create more and sell them to others who may have a need for a practical, yet decorative, dog leash and treat holder. I make other things as well, such as holiday door hanging decorations, wine racks, spice racks, and wall coat racks, and I am always looking for inspiration to add new designs to my collection. I decided to sell my creations on Etsy because I want to share my craft with others and, well, I don't have enough wall space to hang everything I make! In addition, I know a family who has an 11-month-old little boy who was recently diagnosed with Leukemia and their medical expenses are adding up. So, selling my creations is a way I can support myself and lend a hand by donating 10% of my sales to them. Should my store become wildly successful, I will increase the percentage I donate to them. http://www.gofundme.com/TeamLuke7
