Have you taken one of our tours and wondered what happened to the horses that get rescued? Here's a great opportunity for you to enjoy.

MUSTANG MORNINGS:

Join our friends at the Corolla Wild Horse Fund, Wednesdays this summer for Mustang Mornings at the Farm.

Beginning May 22, the Betsy Dowdy Equine Center will be open to the public from 10 am – 2 pm. Visit the farm on the mainland in Grandy and meet the rescued Banker horses currently in their care on the walking tour, where you can spend time with their staff.

Attend a free movie screening of The Secret of Corolla, a 32-minute documentary on the Banker mustangs, the culture, and lifestyle of the island. There will be a Q&A directly after the screening with the CWHF Director of Herd Management, Meg Puckett.

**Suggested donation of $10 per vehicle at the gate.**

Their program will run until Wednesday, August 28th this year. Be sure to check the Events Calendar for announcements of special events to be held at the farm throughout the year.

Happy Earth Day 🌎…from one of the most beautiful places it!

Surely one of the best photos I’ve seen all year with this shot taken by Carova visitor Allan last week. He and his wife, Beth, were walking on the beach to enjoy a sunrise and along comes several Corolla Wild Horses. Allan combined a perfect sunrise, magical waves and not just one sun reflection, but two sun reflections in the water. Glad this pleasant couple is enjoying the true beauties of the Outer Banks. Thanks for showing me this photo. Great job, you two!

The Banker horses are considered critically endangered by equine geneticists and organizations like the Equus Survival Trust and the Livestock Conservancy. WIth only a couple hundred of these horses left in the world, they are facing extinction without purposeful, responsible breed management.

Half of the world’s breeding population of Banker horses live right here on the beaches of Currituck County - what an incredible and special honor! It’s up to all of us to be stewards for the breed, and treat them with the respect they deserve.

We can’t take for granted that they will be here forever, and we all must fight every day for their continued survival. Your ongoing support allows us to monitor the herd and practice responsible management, protect their natural habitat, learn more about their genetics through our work with DNA, and develop off-site breed conservation efforts.
