It's a Happy New Year for Fletcher, Paul, and I! We knocked out a lot of firsts for them, catching many new species and using new techniques. We caught a few dozen trout, many sheepshead,, a nice redfish, black drum, and flounder.

We are very thankful to have missed the worst of Hurricane Helene. The downstairs of our Shell Point beach house flooded about 2 ft inside. It's designed to flood, mostly concrete and concrete boards. We just finished four days of cleanup and improvements. The storm surge filled the downstairs with a thin layer of muck and our yard and fence was covered in debris from the burned house across the street (not storm related). All in all, pretty minor damage. We learned a lot in the aftermath of our first flood since owning the house.

All that said, we are back in business!

Our hearts hurt for all the people severely impacted by the storm along the gulf coast. Now that our cleanup is done, we will are looking for ways to best help the nearby recovering areas.

What a weekend at the Championship! First of all, congratulations to my teammate for taking home the huge championship victory. Also, I am very proud of Carlos Gutierrez for taking home Kayak Angler of the Year. Although Carlos is an experienced boat captain, he only started kayak fishing last December. He was very consistent, catching fish in many locations that were new to him this season.

The two day championship event started off stellar. Collectively, the team ruled out many fishing locations and as luck would have it Matt and Billy found a great location with many redfish schools a couple days before the event. On Day 1, we found those schools again and had a stellar day. I was sitting in second place after day 1 with many of our teammates in the top 10. For day 2, we attempted the same plan, but the redfish schools did not show up and I didn't catch fish. That's fishing... Luckily, Brian still found a small school and pulled two great fish to secure the victory.

It was also fun to meet up with many fishing friends at the event.

The FRS staff did a great job as well.

Looking forward to winning one of these tournaments next season.
