Do you care about Mohican State Forest?

The North Central Ohio Land Conservancy, along with numerous local and statewide partners, is urging citizens to stand up for the Mohican State Forest.

The Ohio Division of Forestry’s “Draft changes for the 5-year management plan for Mohican-Memorial State Forest”http://forestry.ohiodnr.gov/Portals/forestry/PDFs/plans/DRAFT_5yearMohicanAddendum.pdf proposes sweeping changes to how the Forest will be managed.

The Division of Forestry is hosting a public Mohican-Memorial State Forest Open House on Monday, August 21, 2017 from 4:30-6:30pm at the Mohican Lodge and Conference Center, 1098 Ashland County Road 3006 in Perrysville to share information about the planned changes.

In accordance with Division of Forestry practice, only a one-week notice was provided of this opportunity for public comment, so naturalists and other stakeholders are still assessing the many impacts of the proposed changes.

Since the Mohican Forest draft plan lacked vigorous public and stakeholder input, NCOLC encourages every citizen and organization that values the Mohican complex to tell officials what the Mohican State Forest means them. In addition to attending the meeting, people are encouraged to contact Governor Kasich as well as their State Senator and Representative. Mohican State Forest is a public treasure, not a pulpwood or timber crop.
