Our family received life-altering news that no one ever expects. Phillip Schaller, a beloved husband, brother, son and friend, has been diagnosed with leukemia. It came as a shock to all of us — something we never imagined. The moment the doctor spoke those words, it felt surreal, like we were living someone else’s reality.
Phillip was immediately transferred to the hospital in Columbia, South Carolina, where he underwent a series of tests, including blood work, CT scans, and MRIs. After these tests, the heartbreaking diagnosis was confirmed. He has begun treatment, including a blood transfusion and a bone marrow biopsy, to determine the type of leukemia he is fighting. He has since been moved to MUSC in Charleston, South Carolina, where he will begin chemotherapy. His doctors estimate he will be in the hospital for at least four weeks, but this is just the beginning of a long and difficult journey ahead.
Throughout this, Phillip’s wife, Staci, has been by his side every step of the way, showing incredible strength and resilience. With all the treatments and medical needs ahead, it is unclear when Phillip will be able to return to work. As a result, they are facing significant medical and living expenses during this incredibly challenging time.
