The farming spirit is still alive in our Shoff-Read Century Farm and Farmhouse family 6 generations later! A family member recently entered this Ag in Color Contest and won the county award for her grade in our state. Happy National Ag Day!

These won't be blooming until May, but we want to recognize all the farmers, past and present, who work hard to feed, clothe, and produce so much of what we need in this country. For those past generations who cleared this land, weeded it, nourished it, and used it to provide for their families and neighbors, and the current generations who keep it going, thank you! Happy National Agriculture Week!

This picture reminds me of this poem, one of my dad's favorites. He grew up in the Shoff-Read Century Farm and Farmhouse.

Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening

Whose woods these are I think I know.
His house is in the village though;
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow.

My little horse must think it q***r
To stop without a farmhouse near
Between the woods and frozen lake
The darkest evening of the year.

He gives his harness bells a shake
To ask if there is some mistake.
The only other sound’s the sweep

A flag has been flying here for many decades, a reminder of the sacrifice that has been made for us to be free. We are extremely grateful. This farmhouse has been home to men who served in the Civil War, WW II, and during the Vietnam War. Another relative of ours died fighting in France during WWII. On Memorial Day, we remember and give thanks.
