Just did a site inspection of this gorgeous property with fellow agents during our cruise stop here in Bimini, Bahamas. Photo ops galore around every corner. Their event space is stunning, would be amazing for a destination wedding or corporate function, but also, of course, for a family-friendly vacation - they have swimup rooms with direct access to the pool bar! They do have an adults-only infinity pool with some hot tubs sprinkled In, which is a big plus.

🛑 ✋ Actually this is NOT why they have to cut 1500 jobs. Maybe people are realizing online discount booking sites like this aren’t cutting it anymore. When people spend their hard earned dollars on a vacation, they want to work with a trusted source; someone who has actually been to and knows the destinations well, not a company that routes them to some call center rep in another country.

I think what’s really going on here is that professional travel advisors are taking business away from them. 😉 The vast majority of fellow advisor colleagues I know have experienced tremendous growth the last couple years since things have sprung back after the pandemic, including my agency.

This week, Travel Advisors like myself who want to invest in their business are hopping a plane ✈️ to Cancun 🇲🇽 for the education that we’ll get from the multiple workshops offered, in-person vendor meetings & property visits.

With my passion & business niche being destination weddings, social and incentive groups at upscale all-inclusive resorts, I’ll focus on sessions with like-content. I like to think of it like an in-person, live master class.

Travel Tip for the day: If you are staying at a resort and find out your flight is delayed to go home, don't reschedule your airport transportation to pick you up later; keep the same pick-up time. Here is why. Airlines CAN and WILL go back to the original departure time, so you need to still plan to be at the airport when you were initially scheduled. Also, if you have a scheduled ride, it's not likely that your transportation company can move your pick-up time on such short notice. So don't even ask if it's not at least 24 hours prior. 🙂

Right now, I have a client traveling and this is the email I just got from the airline:

Original departure time: 6:30 PM
New departure time: 8:15 PM

We're working hard to get things back on track, so we ask that you still arrive at the airport for your original departure time.

This adults-only, all-inclusive resort in Riviera Nayarit can definitely be quiet and relaxing with their beautiful beach and 6 pools, but on the weekends, the vibe definitely kicks up with their infinity pool parties and live DJs. One of the pools stays open until 1am! 🤩 But don’t worry - if you don’t want to party til all hours of the morning, when you book with me, I’ll make sure you’re in a building not close to that pool. 👍

Here’s another family property great for a destination wedding on the west coast of Mexico framed by the beauty of picturesque Banderas Bay. One of the features of this property is the large sports bar where your family and friends can enjoy together between wedding events. It’s one of the best I’ve seen at a resort! If being able to watch your favorite teams while you’re abroad is important, this is definitely a great feature of this property.

Today I’m scouting properties in Puerto Vallarta for locations for clients’ future destination weddings. This is the first of five. Fantastic set-up for a destination wedding: it’s a family hotel but has separate adults-only section for rooms, pool, and rooftop bar. Seven dining options. Easy 2 1/2 hour non-stop flight from DFW, much smaller airport than Cancun or Los Cabos.

Here's something you may not know about me: I’d never stayed at a resort in Mexico up until 11 years ago when I changed careers from working 2 decades (mostly) selling advertising in television and radio. I was just a salesperson who'd had a pretty good run in that industry & wanted a change.

Many of you might not realize it, but this IS a sales job. But a Travel Advisor is also kind of like a matchmaker; someone who asks questions to find out their clients’ wants & needs and matches them with the experiences they know and destinations they sell.

To me (and among many other things):

* a good Travel Advisor spends their own time and resources getting to know the destinations they sell so they can pass on their knowledge to their clients before they travel; and

* a good Travel Advisor also stays on top of the ever-changing entry requirements of the destinations they sell and is always one step ahead of anticipating potential client hurdles to ensure they have a seamless experience.

Fast forward to today where I’ve hopped on a plane close to 90 times to learn more about this beautiful country. I’m still honing my craft, learning about the resorts I partner with (or want to).

Currently at a conference in the Puerto Vallarta area that focuses on destination weddings and honeymoons, today I’ve been in educational sessions led by my incredibly insightful peers, tomorrow I’ll be meeting with travel industry-leading suppliers, & then finally, visiting some properties where I’ll meet with their sales teams & get an in-depth look to see if they’re a good fit for my clients.

Your PSA for the day: Y'all - there are no new US State Department travel warnings for Mexico in the Cancun or Los Cabos areas. And FYI - Los Cabos, which is made up of Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo is in Baja California Sur, NOT Baja California where there is a higher warning. The media loves to do this every year around Spring Break time and all it does is confuse the heck out of people! It is still Level 2, "Exercise Caution" for both Cancun and Los Cabos as it has been for many years, nothing has changed.

I started following this health and lifestyle vlogger Juli Bauer Roth of PaleOMG from Denver probably 10 years ago. She introduced me to the Paleo(ish!) way of life. She has written multiple cookbooks (of course I have them all!) This gal is personality plus, for sure.

Hotel Xcaret Arte is one of those resorts you dream about long after you leave and head home to reality. I know; it’s been almost 2 months since I was there and I can’t stop thinking about what an amazing time I had on my anniversary trip, and how I would love for you to experience it as well!

Located in the lush Riviera Maya region about an hour south of the Cancun airport, it opened last year to guests ages 16+. It’s by far the most unique property I’ve ever been to; as a Travel Advisor who has seen a LOT of impressive resorts, that’s saying a lot!

This place is for foodies; you’ll be trying dishes from regions all over Mexico and beyond by some of the country’s biggest and brightest chefs. For example, one restaurant fuses Lebanese and Yucatan cuisine. They also just opened a new delicious vegan restaurant.
