I cam home today and was excited to see a Finch on my Zinnias. Until I noticed it pulling the petals off !!! So I had to research why is the finch pulling the petals off my zinnias?
They are notorious for doing this on Sunflowers and Zinnias to eat the seeds …

4 cups of purple hull peas “ fresh or dried
In a double broiler steam the tomatoes about 10 minutes and remove the skins. Place the tomatoes into a food processor and blend .
In a large pot melt butter . Add onions, jalapeño , garlic and tomatoes. Caramelize on medium heat.
Add paprika, white pepper , chicken bouillon and vegetable bouillon cube, salt n pepper and ham hawks. Continue to brown ingredients for 7 to 10 minutes.
Add enough water in the pot to cover ham hawks.
Cover and let it cook on low heat for 2 hours.

Purple Hull peas…
Originally from Africa, imported during The Slave Trades. Purple Hull peas are in the same family as Black Eyed Peas . They were first grown to feed cattle. They were commonly know as Cow Peas.
Purple Hull Peas are tropical in nature and need a very warm climate to thrive in.
George Washington wrote in a letter in 1791 that "pease" (meaning cowpeas) were rarely grown in Virginia, but in 1797 he bought 40 bushels of seed for sowing on his plantation. Since the English pea is not suited to the hot weather of the South, the edible varieties of cowpeas became more popular there, and southerners became accustomed to applying the term "pea" to the cowpea instead of the English pea.
Beautiful painting, I don’t know the artist. I’m sharing it because it has hydrangeas in it . It’s a strange year without them.
Impatient plants once adorned almost every shade garden in the US and abroad. Around 2013, The downy mildew disease (Plasmopara obducens) had became a world wide plague that not only affected the impatience, but also threatened our banana crops. The shade, loving, impatient plants were completely wiped out, and growers had to stop growing them to reduce the threat to our banana crops.
After years of not seeing any impatience I was pleasantly surprised to find this new hybrid at my nursery a couple of years ago.
This new impatient variety is a hybrid mix between the New Guinea and wild
Impatience.
The new variety is called Sun impatience. Unlike our old, cherish impatience, these impatience grow well in sun and part shade, and are not adaptable for full shade. The colors are not as vibrant as the once cherished, shade loving, impatient plants, but they still have some vibrant colors.
Give them a space in your garden , I believe you will love them .

September - Corn / Harvest Moon
The September full moon is actually the Harvest Moon, which is the full Moon that occurs closest to the Autumn Equinox. In two years out of three, the Harvest Moon comes in September, but in some years it occurs in October. Native Americans sometimes refer to it as the Corn moon because it marked the time when corn was supposed to be harvested. The chief Indian staples of corn, pumpkins, squash, beans, and wild rice are now ready for gathering.
