Praying for Baby Nathan Moran This page was created to support the family of Baby Nathan who has been diagnosed with rhabdomyosarcoma. He is in intensive therapy to learn to walk and talk.

click here to read Nathans story.http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/nathanmoran/mystory Nathan was diagnosed with Rhabdomyosarcoma in 2009, it is a rare soft muscle solid tumor (a childhood cancer) His tumor originated in his spine and traveled down his spinal nerves and wrapped back into the front of his pelvis. He has endured 43 weeks of chemotherapy, 28 days radiation and spinal resection to rem

ove tumor from his spine. He has been left permanently disabled from his tumor with paralyzed feet and ankles. His chemotherapy has caused him to have delayed speech. The tumor also caused him to have a sphincter deficiency and he will have to have a future surgery when he is three years old to put a band around his bladder. We appreciate all prayers and support through this journey.

I had not heard from the local wound clinic and called again today to find out that Nathan is on a list to be seen at 3 would clinics. They are so short staffed! I am also waiting to hear back from the nurse at uva. I have him bandaged and at school in the wheelchair so he wouldn't keep missing school. Please be in prayer that he gets all the proper medical care he deserves and needs.

Remember Nathan in prayer. He did a lot of walking and it caused a very large sore on his foot. He saw his local doctor and we have contacted UVA. He was also referred to the wound clinic. He can't feel his feet and it makes it very hard to know these type of injuries are happening until it is too late.

Nathan was at UVA all day today with the Orthopedic Surgeon. Unfortunately, he is going to have to have surgery to lengthen the tendons to help him achieve a more natural neutral position when in his afos so he can walk. He is currently collapsing, causing horrible blisters on the insides of his feet. We are just waiting for scheduling to let us know when this will be. He will then be in casts on both legs for 3 weeks. My guy can't catch a break. He stays in good spirits though. He's stronger and has more faith than anyone I know.

UVA today to pick up his new AFOs. They are trying to reposition his feet and ankles. He is quite uncomfortable and having trouble walking in them with the new position. He has a great attitude though and said he was going to push through the pain. He always does. He is the strongest person I know and so encouraging. He has a heart of gold. I pray that his life will overflow with blessings.

Appointment went well. The doctor increased his medication for his bladder. He has a place on one kidney that he wants to watch that he didn't have before so he will get another scan in 3 months to check it. Please be praying that dissipates. We're finally home and it was such a long day.

UVA trip with Nathan today. He saw his orthopedic surgeon. He was cast for new braces because he's grown a mile. He is very tight and weak in his hips from the surgery and being less mobile. He will resume pt and if he can't tolerate the neutral position of his braces when they come in, he will be put in casts again 🥴 we are praying that will not be the case with summer approaching & well, no one wants casts on both legs. Pray that we can get him back to where he needs to be!!

Thank you to everyone everyone who sent cards to Nathan. He had really enjoyed getting mail and some goodies in the mail too. He will go back to VCU Wednesday to have tubes removed. He will be put under anesthesia. Please continue to pray for his healing.

03/02/2021

Nathan is recovering really well. His ureter tubes are completely dry now. That means the ureters have healed. I am seeing almost no blood in his bags anymore. Everything is healing. His pain has decreased significantly. He is only having minimal issues at night and in the morning. He might be able to get some tubes out next week his doctor said today since things are healing rapidly. He still isn't able to walk, he does transition from his bed with help to the wheelchair or recliner. I know he will be so glad to get these tubes out.

02/27/2021

Nathan is doing pretty good. He had some pain last night, but slept good after the pain spell and has had a good day so far.

02/25/2021

Nathan got discharged kind of late last night. They were on the fence and weren't going to and he begged to have pt and the doctors come in bc he wanted to come home. They were planning to release him today. So, he showed pt we could transfer him from bed to wheelchair and we had to pick him up into my suv. He was so happy to see all the forests and just outside on the way home. He slept really well. We really can't have visitation bc of covid and he has to go back in two weeks and be covid tested and put under again. Please keep the prayers coming bc he has a long recovery ahead. He is doing so much better.

He's doing so much better today. He got his hair washed and everything cleaned up. He sat up and got to be wheeled around the floor and he did art and the math teacher came by too. He got tired around an hour ago. He's resting up for the bowel flush tonight. He is so much better today. The doctor did warn us this will be in waves and not to become discouraged. I am so thankful for today. He needed this good day. Thank you Jesus ❤

He slept all night long, Praise God. Minus having to wake up just to take meds a few times and vitals. He slept on his side. I'm praying today is going to be a great day. He had the pain catheters removed from his back last night too. He has physical therapy today and his bowel flush.

02/22/2021

He's been up about every two hours. He slept on his side some and they gave him meds every time he woke up. It's mostly bladder spasms and I think he's having some gas pain and the tubes when they move are painful. He still has the nerve catheters for pain in his back. I think the Va**um seems to work best to help him relax and sleep a little. Praying that he continues to just improve and that physical therapy can convince him to stand up. We stood him up briefly last night and then he sat up for two hours. But, he's just had a lot of discomfort throughout the night. Tired is an understatement. 😴😴😴

02/22/2021

The bowel flush still didn't work. Shannon had to leave this evening. He is trying to stay in good spirits. I pray we get some sleep tonight. Praying that his bowels wake up and do their job. He said to ask our whole church to pray for him. I told him we have a lot of people praying. He said this is the worst thing he's ever been through 😭 I pray it resolves all of his issues bc he definitely won't agree to more surgery any time soon.

02/21/2021

Nathan had a very restless night. The bowel flush did not go through the bowel so he is having a ton of pressure. We are waiting to see what the doctor plans to do about that bc Shannon leaves today and he is the one who does his flush and honestly he lifts him so much better than I can. We have been praying for pain relief. He's so tired and we were trying to hold off the oxycodone today so he can have it for Physical therapy. I definitely don't see him leaving today or tomorrow.

Nathan's goals today per the doctor are to stand up beside the bed, eat something soft and bowel flush.

He is out of surgery. I have not got to see him yet. His bladder was frozen from the prior surgeries and completely unmoveable. Very inflamed. Doctor said and he couldn't get in the way he needed to he had to actually dissect his bladder and do the reconstruction and then layer it back together. Move the ureters and create a long channel to the bladder neck and perineum. He said it was extremely challenging, but he he felt very confident that it will fix his problems. He will have tubes and catheters and pain catheters left in and he may have to be brought back and put under to have some removed depending on how he heals because he wants the bladder to stay very dry inside to heal from the dissection.

02/18/2021

7 hours later he's finally finishing up surgery. I'm anxiously waiting for him to get to recovery. Praying he will be kept comfortable.

Nathan is in surgery. Expecting 4 hours. 5 to 7 days inpatient after. He will have pain catheters left in his back to control the pain after surgery. Please pray for his recovery. That he will not experience pain and for everyone involved in his care.

02/16/2021

Please remember to keep Nathan in your prayers. Thursday morning is surgery. Expecting 5 to 7 days inpatient. He's a little nervous. Pray for healing over his bladder and small intestines. Pray for a speedy and easy recovery.

01/04/2021

VCU called and surgery is February 18th. At least one week inpatient and about 6 weeks recovery time. Please pray for Nathan every time you think of him. He's very nervous as this surgery is very invasive. I'm nervous about going through it again and I'm not even the patient. The thought of being in the hospital a week doesn't thrill me either. Shannon stayed with him last time. I hope my nerves can take it. We've never been inpatient at vcu so it will all be very different for both of us. He also needs a covid test 3 days prior to the surgery 🙄 super annoying.

11/30/2020

Nathan has had a time with his mace channel and his bladder this year. He's had two surgeries over the summer. He will have urodynamics done December 16th and he will then be scheduled for a much more invasive surgery after that at VCU. Please be praying for him as he has gotten older he is much more nervous about surgery and recovery. Please pray for healing over his body and for his surgeon. Pray for him to just have peace and to not feel any anxiety. Thank you all ❤

Nathan's definitely not a baby any longer. By God's healing power and love alone he is 11-years-old. Nathan does need to be lifted in prayer. He is having surgery again on his bladder Aug 3rd. Please pray for healing over Nathan's entire body. We are so thankful for everyone who prays for our sweet boy.
