Cut Foot Sioux Resort known as “Fisherman’s Paradise” is over 100 years old making it a favorite destination for fishermen. Anglers on Lake Winnie should bear in mind that we're roughly three weeks ahead of last year's timeline. Sometimes, fishing memories can leave anglers feeling stuck, repeating phrases like "they should be here" or "I've caught them here before."

The primary consideration when visiting Lake Winnibigoshish is the wind. While wind can be advantageous, helping to land more fish, excessive wind can turn boat control into a nightmare and even pose safety risks. On windy days, finding sheltered areas on the lake or avoiding the heart of the gusts can lead to a more enjoyable and productive fishing trip. Choose a section of the lake, trust that the fish are there, and make subtle adjustments until you locate them. Many anglers make the mistake of making overly large moves or changing presentations drastically. Making smaller adjustments throughout the day reduces the risk of missing out on potential bites.

The bite on Lake Winnie has remained consistently strong. Anglers who incorporate side imaging into their arsenal for locating fish can efficiently cover vast areas and pinpoint specific spots for targeting walleye on the lake. With water temperatures steadily rising towards the 60-degree mark, anglers are adapting and refining their techniques. This week, many fish have been successfully caught using bobber techniques with leeches and minnows, while long-lining lighter weight spinner rigs is also becoming increasingly effective. Remember, if you're in the vicinity of fish but they're not biting, don't hesitate to switch up your approach. Anglers who remain flexible in their techniques are more likely to capitalize on opportunities, especially when they know the fish are present but reluctant to bite...

Your fishing report is in!

Walleye action has been on and off, and it depends on the day, but when it’s on, anglers are catching big numbers of fish. Work the breaks and main-lake structure in 22 to 30 feet during the day or 15 to 23 feet during low-light periods. The evening hours and after dark have been a bit more productive. Pike and perch continue to be mixed with the walleyes, but you will have to sort through a lot of small fish. Trucks are being used out of many resorts, and ATVs are good to go throughout the lake. Continue to work through resorts for up-to-date road and ice conditions.

Your fishing report is in!

Walleye action has slowed since the cold front, but some fish continue to be caught during the evening hours and after dark in 18 to 30 feet on the mainlake bars – a dead stick and shiner minnow have worked better than spoons. You’ll find bigger perch in 24 to 26 feet or 28 to 34 feet, just off the structure edges. There are a few ice heaves you need to work around, but 12 inches of ice seems to be pretty consistent, and continue to work through a resort.

The wind was preventing ice to form last weekend, but it calmed enough on Monday night for portions of the lake to develop skim ice. There was still a lot of open water early this week, and whether the ice in place on Tuesday morning stays intact and keeps expanding depends on the weather throughout this week.

Fishing pressure remains light, but you could probably still catch walleyes with a jig and minnow along the shoreline breaks and points in less than 10 feet. There haven’t been enough people on the water to gather any reports.
