Private Car Seat Check

This service is an excellent choice for parents unable to wait for an appointment at a public agency fitting station or check event, or whose local agencies do not offer car seat checks, as well as for those who would prefer a more private, personalized and thorough experience. Appointments are at your convenience, including nights and weekends, in the privacy of your own d

riveway, garage, or other location of your choosing. There is no rush, the Child Passenger Safety Technician can take her time explaining to you the specifics of the car seat you have chosen and help you learn how to use its features properly. You will learn the specifics of what methods of installation and seating locations are available in your vehicle for your child's car seat or booster seat. The CPST will help fit your child in his or her car seat or booster seat correctly, teach you to install the seat into your vehicle, and perform a final inspection. Your private car seat check will take approximately one hour.

$65 for the first seat, plus travel
$35 for each additional car seat in the same vehicle
$25 for additional booster seats in the same vehicle

What’s without pumpkin pie? If you don’t buckle up this Thanksgiving, you and the pie won’t make it to dinner. In 2017, 8 out of 10 people ejected from vehicles in crashes were killed. Remember to . Every Trip. Every Time.

Diono Recall!

NOTE: This recall is ONLY for car seats installed using LAP BELT only with no top tether.

NHTSA Campaign Number: 17C003000

Manufacturer Diono (formerly SUNSHINE KIDS JUVENILE)

Components CHILD SEAT

Potential Number of Units Affected 519,052

Summary

Diono is recalling certain Radian R100, Radian R120, Radian RXT, Olympia, Pacifica, and Rainier convertible and booster car seats. When the seat is installed in the forward facing position and secured to the car using the lap belt without also using the top tether, the seat may not adequately protect the child from injury in the event of a crash. As such, these child seats fail to conform to the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 213, "Child Restraint Systems."

Remedy

Diono will notify owners, and provide a free remedy kit with an updated instruction manual, an energy absorbing pad, as well as a new chest clip, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin November 22, 2017. Owners may contact Diono customer service at 1-855-463-4666.

When parents purchase a vehicle, it's not often that they think about top tether locations. But it's important! Many vehicles marketed to families (like minivans and larger SUVs) have a limited number of top tether anchors, especially in the third row. Why do top tether anchors matter? When a child moves from a rear-facing car seat to a forward-facing car seat, head excursion (and reducing it) is the focus. Watch the video to see how a top tether anchor with a properly installed seat and properly snugged harness can reduce head excursion to help prevent innjury. And be sure to find out how many top tether anchors are in any car you're planning to purchase, and where!

Forward-facing car seats should always be installed using the top tether. You can find this tether near the uppermost point of the car seat, on the back behi...

MV related deaths remain the leading cause for children ages 5 and up to age 24. This is not a surprise. We're doing a better job of keeping kiddos safe when they're smaller, but too many parents and caregivers still aren't getting the message about boostering until the child can pass the 5 step test. This is a much older age than most people guess! My 10 year old of average height and weight still cannot pass, and remains in a no-back booster. Because the adult seat belt cannot protect him if it doesn't fit properly. And for our teens and above, we need to continually remind them the adult belt won't protect them either if they're not wearing it.
