The Detroit River is slowly transforming as winter tightens its grip. The ice is creeping in, turning the once flowing water into a frozen landscape. It's a beautiful reminder of nature's power and the changing seasons.

Soon, this river will be covered in a blanket of ice, but for now, it’s a stunning preview of the winter to come.

Here’s a stunning shot of the tug Donegal (radio call sign WX 9774), originally built as the Reid Mc Allister and operated along the East Coast before joining the Gaelic fleet. In the background, you can spot the Coast Guard icebreaker KAW, later purchased by Gaelic and renamed the Roger Stahl.

This photo, taken from another Gaelic tug at the Ojibway Salt Dock in Windsor by Captain Hoey, captures a moment in history. Tugs like the Donegal were crucial in breaking ice to prevent flowing ice from knocking the salt barge off the dock during loading.
