On my recent trip to Boston. I stayed at the MOXY- Downtown Boston.
For those of you not familiar with the MOXY brand let me provide a little Insight.

MOXY is part of the Marriot International group. They specialize in creating a social environment & comfy Lounge Spaces. They always have a vibey hotel bar that hosts events and DJs. They tend to have smaller, yet stylish rooms and enhanced public areas like gyms, bars, and co-work spaces.
I feel that it is really catered to the travelers in their late 20s-30s.

An added bonus was that our room had a fantastic city view!

Denver is a Vibrant City filled with unique experiences. But what stood out to me was the food and the beer!

There is a craft brewery seemingly on every corner. All of which were incredible.
The food scene is incredible. They offer a variety of Cuisines from across the world as well as restaurants that specialize in American Classics. Comment to get my list of favorites from my visit!

Staying in Denver, Consider taking a day trip to Pikes Peak and The Garden of the Gods.

⭐ Pike's Peak is located just 15 minutes outside of Colorado Springs and is one of the first 14ers to be accessible to all visitors. Self-driving and shuttles that run to the summit at 14,115ft allow access to all ages. It is a wonderful place to spend an afternoon admiring the views. Pike's Peak does require a timed-entry permit. Plan accordingly!
I also recommend grabbing lunch or dinner in Colorado Springs before moving on to your next destination.

⭐ The Garden of the Gods: Also located in the Colorado Springs area The Garden of the Gods park is open to all visitors. No permit is required. There are plenty of different tours offered. However, I loved exploring the stunning rock formations on my own. The orange rocks contrasting the lush green foliage was really unlike anything I had ever seen!

I recommend arriving close to their opening time to help beat the crowds.
It is also fun to visit Old Colorado City for the cute artisan shops and local restaurants.

Some ICONIC Landmarks of Sevilla, Spain

⭐ Plaza de España: (slides 1 & 2) The Plaza de España was designed to host the 1929 World Fair and is designed in a mixture of 1920s Art Deco, Spanish Renaissance Revival, Spanish Baroque Revival, and Neo-Mudéjar Styles. This complex now includes a half mile of tiled walls, fountains, and pavilions. Complete with a moat, bridges, and row boats available for rent.

⭐ Metropol Parasol "Las Setas": (Slides 3 & 4) This is the largest wooden construction in the world. This structure incorporates the Roman ruins that formerly occupied this space, as well as offering interesting design and the best views of the city. Only open since 2011, Sevilla's newest landmark is my favorite place to take in a Sunset. You can also grab wine and other beverages from the bar incorporated into Las Setas's viewing deck.

⭐ Sevilla Cathedral & La Giralda Tower: (Slides 5, 6 & 7) Official name "Catedral de Santa María de la Sede" is the third largest cathedral in the world. Only bested by St. Peter's Basilica in Rome and St. Paul's Cathedral in London. It was built on the site of an old Moorish Mosque. All that remains of the Original structure is the Patio de los Naranjos (The patio of Oranges) and La Giralda Tower, which provides an incredible view of the city. Inside the cathedral which was completed in 1507, you can find the tomb of Christopher Colombus.

⭐ Alcazar de Sevilla: (slides 8 & 9) The Royal Palace of Sevilla is a palace complex designed in the Mudéjar style. It is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You can see many influences from Christian and Moorish cultures as they combined in Spain. Construction began in 913 and continued to expand until 1503. It was also utilized in many TV shows and movies, including Game of Thrones. One of Sevilla's most popular attractions, be sure to reserve your place in advance.

⭐The Guadalquivir River: (slide 10) Along the banks of the Guadalquivir there are beautiful parks, places to relax, and more landmarks. The river runs through the heart of Sevilla and is a wonderful place to spend a morning.

Sevilla is a magical city, and it is only fitting that it has some magical accommodation options as well!

⭐Casas de la Juderia (slides 1-4): Hotel Casas de la Judiera feels like a secret part of Sevilla shared only with its guests. Located in the historic Jewish Quarter just minutes away from Sevilla's most Iconic landmarks, this complex of 27 traditional houses and 40 charming courtyards is in the Ideal location for your exploration of Sevilla. Not to mention a rooftop pool with an A+ view of the city.

⭐Casa Romana (slides 5-7): Casa Romana is an idyllic boutique hotel located in a historic 18th-century building in the old quarter of Sevilla. Charming and secluded with a beautiful rooftop pool and bar. This hotel encapsulates all of Sevilla's charm while being in the heart of the city.

⭐Hospes Las Casas Del Rey De Baeza (slides 8-10): Located in a former 18th-century farmyard. This accommodation brings historical charm to modern luxury. It is also only 10 minutes from the city center.

If there is ever a time to visit Sevilla, it is certainly in the spring.

Here's why:
1. The weather: the weather in Sevilla is beautiful in the spring it typically stays in the mid-60s to 70s with lots of sun!

2. The Festivals! Sevilla's 2 major cultural festivals both take place in the spring. Being Semana Santa (holy week) and Feria de Abril. Both of these festivals are recognized across the world and are incredible to be a part of.

TIKAL is hands down one of the coolest places I have visited. In my opinion, it is more interesting and Impressive than Chichen Itza in Mexico.

You may recognize it from Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope

Here you get to see all the grandeur and magnitude of Mayan Temples but you can actually interact with them. You can climb them and touch them. You can see traces of 3,000 unexcavated structures.

I also loved that you had to navigate from pyramid to pyramid through the Jungle. You can hear and see the animals all around. Our guide said that sunrise tours sometimes will see Jaguars and Quetzal. On my tour, we saw several species of vibrant birds, and frogs, and heard the howler monkeys going crazy!

Some things to note:
This area of Guatemala is very hot. I recommend going at 3:00am for the Sunrise tour or at 4:30am. This way the animals are more active and the weather is much cooler.

I highly recommend using a guide, it helps with Navigating the park & you can learn so much about the site that you wouldn't if you are opting for the self-guided option.

Wear good footwear. There is lots of walking and climbing at Tikal, so be prepared.

This is the tour I took, and it was perfect.

Peten-Flores Hotels
Lake Petén Itzá is Guatemala's 3rd largest lake, so you should stay at a property that allows you to properly enjoy it!

📍Las Lagunas Hotel (photos 1-3)
Las Lagunas Hotel is set on 200 Acres of a private Guatemalan Jungle reserve, and you can see that this nature is its design inspiration. It combines the beauty and luxury of a boutique hotel with a remote nature reserve. All while focusing on conservation and being an Ideal location to visit the nearby Tikal ruins.

📍Hotel Camino Real Tikal (photos 4-7)
Located on the shores of Lake Petén Itzá Hotel Camino Real Tikal allows you to enjoy the water, on provided kayaks or catamarans. You can also explore the unique flora and Fauna at the nearby Cerro Cahui Natural Reserve. It also gives you easy access to Tikal, just 30 minutes away. 📍Bolontiku boutique Hotel (photos 8-10)
Just a Lancha ride from Flores Island Bolontiku keeps you close to the action while still having a remote feel. Located on the shores of Lake Petén Itzá you have easy access to water activities, as well as the town of Flores and all the tours offered there. From Bolontiku you can easily catch a tour to Tikal, Crater Azul, or a Lake Petén boat party.

Welcome to Flores!

Located in Northern Guatemala, close to the Belize and Mexico borders is a colorful Island in the middle of Lake Petén Itzá.

Due to its location, the weather is VERY different from Antigua or Lake Atitlan. While I was visiting in March Antigua and Lake Atitlan were experiencing temps in the mid-70s, and cooling off in the evening. In Flores the temps were over 100, only cooling off minimally overnight.

It is often visited due to its proximity to the Mayan ruins at Tikal. However, I didn't realize before visiting that there is much more to do in this area.

Unfortunately, I only allotted 1 full day in Flores, when I could have easily spent 2 or 3.

Some things to do while in Flores:
⭐ Take a Sunrise tour of TIKAL
⭐ Visit & Snorkel the Crater Azul
⭐ Visit the Uaxactun Mayan Ruins
⭐ Enjoy a boat party on Guatemala's 3rd largest lake (often leave around 3pm and return between 8 and 9 pm)
⭐Hike at Ixpanpajul Nature Preserve & enjoy the Canopy walk
⭐ Watch a stunning sunset
⭐ Jorge's Roap Swing
⭐Take a boat tour or go swimming
⭐ Kayak or SUP
⭐ Explore the Island and Church in the middle of town

One of my favorite things I did while in Antigua was an ATV Coffee tour with Simoon Tours.

It was such a fun way to tour the city and the best way to learn about Guatemalan Coffee, which is a major factor in the country's culture and economy.

⭐The 1st stop is at Cerro de la Cruz which is a stunning viewpoint of the city of Antigua
⭐ Next you will drive your ATVS to La Azotea, a functioning Coffee plantation and factory. Here you learn about the process and techniques used to grow, dry, ferment, and roast incredible Guatemalan Coffee. Here you will see the fields and taste one of the best cups of coffee I have ever had.
⭐ As a bonus you will learn about the Chocolate making process
⭐ After the tour at La Azotea, you will have free time to purchase bags of coffee and enjoy the Biergarten or cafe on sight.
⭐ Finally you will drive your ATVs back to Simoon Tours Lots.

I didn't expect to love this tour as much as I did!

Let's talk about Volcan Acatenango.
For many, it is what draws them to Guatemala in the first place. For the ability to spend the night on Volcan Acatenango and watch neighboring Fuego erupt throughout the night.

Many people hike 6+ strenuous hours and to reach base camp

However, due to my asthma and in general being out-of-shape, I was worried that If I did the hike I wouldn't make it to base camp. This led me to search for alternative options. AND MAN DID I FIND ONE! It is a very well-kept secret.
However, 1 company in Antigua offers a 4x4 tour of Acatenango. What does this look like?
- The company will provide you with food, gear, and a guide.
- you will then take a 1 hour and 30-minute ride in a 4x4 vehicle up Volcan Acatenango: typically it accommodates 7-8 people. This means 4 will be inside the cab with the other 4 riding in the trunk (I sat in the trunk!)

- Once the 4x4 vehicle drops you off, you then have a 45-minute to 1-hour hike to your basecamp.

- Once you arrive at base camp, You can elect to go on the 4+fuego hike or 30 minute sunset hike (both an extra cost) The sunset hike was worth it!

- After sunset you will return to base camp, have dinner, roast marshmallows, and watch the show that Fuego puts on. It is nature and you cannot predict explosions. Some nights it is more active than others. I was up on a rather slow night but still saw 6-7 impressive explosions.

- In the morning you can choose to summit Acatenango for Sunrise (3hr hike) or watch the sunrise from Basecamp. Here you will have coffee/tea and breakfast before hiking about 45 min back to the jeep. Which will take you back down Acatenango.

Some things to be prepared for: No running water on the top of Acatenango (seems pretty obvious but our guide said people are constantly surprised by this). Accommodations are rustic and you will be sharing with members of your group. Once the sun goes down it gets COLD. Come prepared bring layers. The jeep ride is rough!!! The altitude can really get to you, Asprin helps, you can bring altitude medicine, and drink lots of water!

Because Antigua has way too many good hotels to cram into 1 post. Here are 3 more incredible options.

⭐️Casa Santo Domingo Hotel (photos 1-4): Casa Santo Domingo prides itself on restoring the former Convent of Santo Domingo, it was one of the world's largest convents until it was destroyed by an earthquake in 1773. In 1989 the owners of Casa Santo Domingo began the restoration and transformed the convent into this 132-room boutique Hotel. It offers rooms decorated with local art and textiles as well as a pool, whirlpool bath, saunas, and spas.

⭐️Posada de Don Rodrigo (photos 5-7): Posada de Don Rodrigo has been family-owned and operated for 3 generations and spans three historical colonial houses. While made into a hotel in 1971 the hotel maintains the historic integrity and Facade of the original homes. With modern amenities, but historic surroundings, Posada de Don Rodrigo is a perfect place to immerse yourself in Guatemalan culture.

⭐️Meson de Maria (photos 7-10): Meson de Maria is located in a meticulously restored XXII Century Mansion. Here you can enjoy colonial architecture and the true feel of Antigua. With an adorable courtyard adorned with a fountain and incredible views of Volcan Fuego from the Terrace.

Antigua has so many incredible Hotel options. Many charming Andalucian syle mansions have been converted into Boutique hotel options that make for a comfortable stay in this wonderful city

⭐️Casa Encantada (Photos 1-4): Casa Encantada is a tranquil and charming hotel tucked away in the heart of Antigua City. It is just 4 blocks from Antigua's central park. But despite the central location, it promotes relaxation with its well-tended gardens and refreshing pool.

⭐️El Convento (Photos 5-7): El Convento located in the heart of Antigua honors its history and craftsmanship within its own walls. While taking a modern design it still boasts old hand-carved doors which depict pieces of Guatemala's history. It is also home to a well-curated restaurant, with local foods, coffees, and spirits.

⭐️ Camino Real (Photos 8-10): Camino Real is a 4-star boutique hotel decorated in colonial architecture and carefully selected touches. It offers an outdoor pool-sized whirlpool bath for guests to enjoy which is perfect for sore muscles from hiking and the cool Antigua evenings

Antigua, Guatemala is Special!

Antigua is surrounded by 3 volcanos, Fuego, Agua, and Acatenango. Which can be seen throughout the city.

It caters to all types of travelers. Luxury 5-star resorts to budget backpackers. This is reflected in all aspects, particularly in the culinary scene. You can find food from all over the world. Fancy, expensive restaurants but also street foods that will set you back less than $1.

There is so much to do here.
Shopping: My favorite place to buy local artisan products is called Nim Po't : This is a wholesale retailer of Guatemalan handicrafts. It has so much that I wanted to take home with me! The best part. No Haggling necessary! Since it is wholesale you are already getting the best prices without negotiating.

There are other Artisan Markets in the city where you can find everything you are looking for as well. Antigua is also a great place to purchase high-quality jade jewelry!

Cafés: Since Guatemala is known for its coffee, cafe culture is rather prevalent here. be sure to support local coffee shops and enjoy some of the best coffee in the world, most likely in a beautiful courtyard or rooftop terrace. While the Starbucks here is beautiful it has put many local coffee shops out of business. So be sure to support Local!

Tours: There are so many tours and classes catered towards tourists in Antigua: some include guided hikes, ATV tours, Walking tours, chocolate-making classes, Salsa dance classes, and so much more!

Churches: There are many churches within the small city of Antigua, with seemingly one on every block. Antigua is known to be the center of Religion in Guatemala, and it shows. Recently their Semana Santa (easter) Festivities have been recognized by UNESCO as a cultural World Heritage event. Several churches have also maintained parts of their old architecture facades showing the beautiful ruins and roofless wings that were brought down by frequent earthquakes. Most others have modernized and rebuilt to withstand.

Transportation around Lake Atitlán is relatively easy.

The primary and fastest way to get from point A to B is often by boat. There are 2 different options for this

1. Lanchas: These are the public ferries. These run from 7am to 7pm but the last boat often leaves its dock at 6pm
The common price from Panajachel is 25 q to san Jan or San pedro (1way) 75 q if you want to visit both and pre purchase your return ticket. And 30q for a 1 way ticket to San Marcos

2. Private boat transfer: hotels can arrange these in advance or you can arrange this at the docks. They can run outside of public ferry hours. And are much more expensive.

If you are looking for transportation options after the lanchas close, you can also utilize tuktuks or taxis.

Something to note: around 3 and 4 pm the winds seemed to change to make for larger waves and a much bumpier ride across the lake. While the winds aren’t always predictable, it seemed that this was a common occurrence.

Chichicastenango, lovingly referred to as chichi, Is a popular day-trip destination from Lake Atitlán. The ride takes about 1.5 hours through the highlands (think very narrow, curvy roads, with spectacular views).

Chichi is known predominantly for 2 things.

1. Its massive artisan market: The market is held every Thursday and Sunday and offers a variety of goods. Textiles, beadwork, paintings, ceramics, food, spices. Anything you could Imagine. It can be overwhelming so brace yourself for large crowds. However, it is worth a visit to see and take home some of these incredible traditional Guatemalan goods.

2. The Cemetery. In Mayan culture honoring their dead is an important tradition, and In Chichicastenango, family members visit the colorful graves of their family members and bring flowers, burn incense, and make offerings weekly. Once a year the colorful graves are repainted on Dia de los Mu***os. The colors in which graves are painted have special symbolism.

Shuttles to Chichicastenango are easy to find on Thursdays and Sundays. Most Tour agencies in Panajachel can easily schedule a shared transfer or a Private transfer.

I just returned from an Inspiring trip to Guatemala, and I CANNOT WAIT to share it with you. In my 10-day stay in Guatemala, I got to explore 3 very different parts of the Country and left feeling like there is so much more to do in see.

The focus of this post is Lake Atitlán!

Lake Atitlán is a volcanic lake in the Highlands region of Guatemala and is the deepest lake in Central America.

Due to the lake's elevation and geographical location, the weather is beautiful for the majority of the year. While I was visiting at the beginning of March, The temps often reached 75/80 during the day with sunshine and cooled off to the mid-50s at night.

The primary form of transportation around the lake is by boat. There are private ferries, but also public ferries often called Lanchas.

Lake Atitlán is Surrounded by several indigenous Mayan Villages. Each village has something different to offer:

📍San Marcos La Laguna: San Marcos la Laguna is well known for its assortment of rituals and healing ceremonies that it offers. It is also a common location for Yoga retreats and trainings. My favorite part about San Marcos La Laguna is the Iconic views and the Cerro Tzankujil Nature Reserve. Which offers many places to sunbathe, and swim in the stunning lake. Not to mention La Trampoline: which is a 12m doc created for the perfect cliff jumping location.

📍San Juan La Laguna: San Juan la Laguna is an adorable town known for its art. San Juan la Laguna is covered in vibrant murals. Here you can find local collectives of weavers, potters, and artists where you can buy incredible handmade textiles, pottery, and paintings. There is also a wonderful café where they grow and roast their own coffee.

📍San Pedro La Laguna: Is known around the lake for its nightlife. Great parties, and there is always something going on. We enjoyed Los Termales which are a byob thermal spa and baths. A great way to enjoy your day.

📍Panajachel: This is a major hub of the lake and a great location to set up your base. They have a wonderful market and delicious food options. While being the easiest place on the lake to navigate to and from.

What is a trip to Savannah without a stay in a historic inn? Here are 2 of my favorite options.
📍Marshall House: Located in the center of Savannah's Historic District, this historic Inn has an interesting past. In 1864-1865 the Marshall House was used as a Union hospital in the Civil War, which has helped contribute to its supernatural reputation. Here you will experience luxury accommodations with a historical feel. I absolutely love the shaded balconies!

If ghosts are not quite your thing, consider:

📍 River Street Inn: Located in a beautifully restored, 200-year-old cotton warehouse in the downtown Historic District. This accommodation is right on the river, and steps away from wonderful restaurants, and cocktail bars. River Street Inn combines historical touches with modern furnishings beautifully!
