We went for a little ride on the trails ourself today. They are deteriorating really fast! Rocks are staring to poke through. Some areas were still good while others were poor! The next 3 days the temps are supposed to be above freezing and that’s only going to make it worse. We just plain need fresh snow! If you do ride please do so with caution and watch for waterholes.

Groomer report Feb 18, 2024

Great news! The groomer just called me and said the east end now has sufficient snow and the trail is looking good out there. He was pleasantly surprised! The gates are back open now and you can go the whole loop! He did break through the waterhole in the Gems area ( just before McCormick’s Marsh) but was able to pull enough snow in there and he feels it will refreeze but use caution in this area. It’s time to get out there and enjoy the trails while we still can!

We got a few fresh inches of snow last night. As promised the groomer went out first thing this morning to check out the east end of the island. I’ll update you later as to the condition on the end.

Fun fact….. We have all seen this sign on I-75 right? Well Drummond island is at the 46th Parallel so even closer to the North Pole!

Groomer Report Feb 17, 2024

The groomer just came in from grooming the west end of the island. That end the snow is very thin. The south end of the island/ Canoe Bay is very poor. There are some areas that are decent!
On the east end of the island typically has even less snow so we aren’t going to attempt that end until we get more snow. There is a possibility of more snow tonight. We closed the gate between the end of the plains and Glen Cove to keep jeeps off the private property trails during this lack of snow. There is another gate close in what is the gems due to a lot of water holes. Basically stay off the Northeast loop all together.
If we get the snow they are predicting tonight we will attempt to groom the east end. Basically starting over. Sad but true!

UPDATE: I forgot to mention that the gates have been closed between Gates camp and Wazz’s camp due to low snow to prevent jeep traffic on those private property trails. If we do get enough snow to re-establish that trail we will open those gates and let you know.

We did get a few inches of new snow yesterday and last night! We were down to almost nothing. The Groomer is going to go out today and at least pan on the west end to see if we have enough snow to re-establish a trail and to see how the waterholes hold up. I’ll post a trail report as soon as I know more.

While we did get a couple of inches of fresh snow last night it’s no where near enough to make up for what we lost! The groomers will NOT be going out!

Well we have gone from an amazing 18 inches down to a disappointing 6 inches of snow on the snow gauge.
It’s been to warm to even consider going out on the trails to groom but from what I can see in town there are bare spots on the trails and I can only imagine what this warm weather has done to the waterholes. I’m sorry but I don’t recommend going out in the trails at this time.

Trail Report 1/19/24

Both ends of the island have been Groomed several times now and are in decent shape. There are a few waterholes out there that groomer breaks open when it goes over them. They freeze up fast afterwards in these cold temps. The area between the plains and Glen Cove has thin snow. Remember it only takes a few minutes for hypothermia to set in once you get wet so ride with caution and watch for waterholes till we get them froze in solid.

We do have around 8-9 inches of snow on the ground. The groomer went out on the west end and panned it (not groomed)
There are many deep water holes even on this end of the island because it just hasn’t been cold enough to freeze them up yet … colder weather and more snow is coming though!
The east end we didn’t even try because we know without even going out there that there are so very deep water holes! The gates on the east end are still closed for this reason!
For your safety absolutely do not go out on the east end towards Marblehead and Glen Cove.
*****If you do go in the west end keep in mind there are DEEP water holes.
******Remember hypothermia sets in in a matter of minutes once you get wet!

This is the amount of all fresh snow. The groom will go out on the west end of the island to pan the trails this afternoon as soon as a get an up date from the driver I will post a groomer report. I expect that the east end waterholes are not froze up yet with all the warm weather we have had lately.

Groomer report…. 3/7/23
With the extremely warm weather we this past weekend and the temps every day so far this week our trails are deteriorating fast! I’m seeing bare spots popping up everywhere. Anywhere there is pavement or gravel roads is completely bare now as well. At this point unless we get more snow we probably won’t be grooming anymore. There are places you can still ride but expect place with bare spots along the way. It is March and that March sun is hotter and harder on the trails than in January and February. Enjoy what we have left of this season!

The Snow Gods paid us a visit again last ight and left us about 4 inches of fresh white stuff. It 35 degrees niw and already settling down!

Hip hip hooray! Finally we can put out a good trial report! The west end was done last night and it’s the best it’s been all year. The east end is being done as we speak but he called me and said even most of our problems areas out there have a 100% improvement. You can even go everywhere now! I would add to use caution on the loop between Glen Cove and the Maxton Plains as the there is still a logging operation going there with lots of log trucks constantly coming and going. Other than that we are doing great!
Ride safe, enjoy the trails and keep doing your snow dance… it’s working!

It’s still snowing but I wanted to get a photo before it got to dark. I’d say we got a good 7+ inches today!
One groomer went out already. The other one is waiting for a hard to find part so be please patient with us!

The Snow Gods saw our snow dances and graced us with 4 inches is fresh last night! What a beautiful sight to wake up to this morning!

Just an FYI…..This is an example of our trail just off the ferry boat…. We are going to have to have some snow to recover from this!
This is typically a good area!
