The catacombs of kom El shofaqa also known as the hill of treasure, regarded as a huge necropolis and royal cemetery that dates back to the second century AD. The necropolis has a unique mixture of Roman, Hellenistic and pharaonic art elements reflected in the paintings on the wall, and the style of the statues, funeral objects and tombs. The archaeological site was one of the seven wonders in the middle ages.

The catacombs interior design

The underground catacombs are a bit scary; the scene of the carved stone tombs next to each other gives the illusion of sincere horror, but at the same time historical atmosphere. The Ptolemaic is Hellenistic kingdom that was based in Egypt, who followed the steps of ancient Egyptians of constructing underground hidden tombs for pharaohs and their wives. The Ptolemaic were so affected by the Egyptians, they believed in their concepts about death, after life journey and gods, and this is very shown in the catacombs that shows the pharaonic identity beside the Roman character.

The catacombs are serial of Alexandrian tombs reach deep under the ground, consists of three levels of 35 meters burial chambers cut into bedrocks. There is a rounded entrance leads to the catacombs levels; the third level is flooded by ground water leaks, and cannot be accessed. People usually enter the catacombs by rounded shaft with staircases lead to the principle tomb and the center piece which is an antechamber with columns. This center piece leads to inner sanctum. The antechamber is covered by cravings for Egyptian god Anubis (the god of dead) dressed like Romans, and some statue for Romans emperors who ruled Egypt during this period.

The antechamber maybe the major sight of the catacombs and the most important for having all the decorations and statues. Also, There are two passages lead to the Hall of Caracalla which has its own staircases. one of the catacombs main feature, are the two tombs of emperor Tigrane and wardian which are located few meters from the entrance.
The origin of the name
Catacombs of kom El shoqafa also known as (the mount of shards) in a reference for the clay objects left and the stone mud construction. in fact, this archaeological site have too many names. Some called it catacombs because it is similar to Rome Christian catacombs. But Arab came after and named it (the treasure hill)

Statue of Amun with features of Tutankhamun

Standing graywacke statue of Amun, preserved from the knees up. Amun wears a short kilt fastened with a tyet amulet, a broad collar. The tall plumes of his crown are missing. In his hands, he holds two ankh symbols.

The statue is an indication of Egyptian religion reverting to traditional presentations connecting the king and the god Amun at the head of the pantheon. In this statue, the god Amun typically appears as a man wearing a tall, double-plumed headdress. His tall headdress is missing from this statue, but his crown bears traces of gilding.

Nebamun was a scribe & accountant, born in 1350 BC. The scene depicts a feast that he would enjoy during the afterlife with music, dance and guests. In hieroglyphs above the musicians, the lyrics of the song played translates to: “The earth God has caused his beauty to grow in every body. The channels are filled with water anew, and the land is flooded with love of him”.

Nebamun’s tomb was discovered in the Luxor Necropolis in 1820 by Giovanni d’Athanasi who knife-carved the frescoes off the wall and sold them. the tomb since then has been lost but is source to a number of great paintings. This and other paintings from the tomb are in the British museum in London

Golden Sandals of Tutankhamun
A pair of golden sandals of Tutankhamun found on his feet. These stunning gold sandals were just one of 42 pairs King Tutankhamun had in his tomb. Too many ointments poured on Tutankhamun’s mummy caused severe damage to the tissues, except for those protected by gold: the face, fingers, and toes.

Queen Nefertiti, whose name means "the beautiful one has come," is the wife of King Amenhotep IV (who later became Akhenaten), the famous king of the Eighteenth Dynasty, and protector of Tutankhamun. She was considered one of the most powerful women in ancient Egypt. She lived a short period after her husband's death, and helped Tutankhamun take power. This beautiful queen had a high status during her husband's reign.

El dilema en la construcción de la Gran Pirámide no fue solo el tamaño de las piedras y la gran altura. El proceso de construcción de las pirámides involucró varios trabajos secundarios como nivelar el lugar acordado para construir la pirámide, cortar y nivelar las piedras. y asegurándose de que sus superficies y lados estén nivelados con la base. No fue fácil de ingeniería alcanzar esta altura sin asegurarse de que las piedras grandes en la base de la pirámide sean consistentes entre sí para no causar un desequilibrio resultante de apilar las piedras una encima de la otra para alcanzar esta altura

EXPOSICIÓN TEMPORAL EN EL MUSEO NACIONAL DE LA CIVILIZACIÓN EGIPCIA

Con motivo de la celebración de la Navidad celebran la clara influencia del cristianismo en la cultura egipcia, creencias y artes de los egipcios, a través de una exhibición temporal titulada "Hágase la luz: destellos de las artes cristianas en Egipto"

Algunas piezas se están mostrando al público por primera vez, incluyendo iconos coptos llevados a cabo en diferentes estilos artísticos, una serie de manuscritos escritos en idiomas copto y árabe desde el comienzo de la Era Islámica, así como ejemplos de arte copto de obras de metal y madera, y modelos de cerámica que se usaba en monasterios e iglesias y en servicios eclesiásticos en Egipto

Comenzó el 1 de enero y durará 10 días.

Durante el Reino Antiguo surgió un elemento funerario singular, la llamada "estela de falsa puerta", un objeto de prestigio que se colocaba en la capilla de la tumba. La finalidad de las falsas puertas, que podían ser un bloque de piedra exento o estar talladas o pintadas en el propio muro, era permitir al alma del difunto transitar entre el más allá y el mundo terrenal. Así, podía recoger las ofrendas alimentarias que necesitaba para su sustento e "interactuar" con los vivos.

Sarcófago antropomórfico de Ankhesenamun, esposa de Tutankamón, Reino Nuevo
Anjesenamón fue la tercera de las seis hijas de Akenatón y de la Gran Esposa Real, Nefertiti. Su nombre original, Ankesenamen, significa La que vive por Amón.
A la muerte de su padre, contrajo matrimonio con el príncipe TuTutankamó hijo y sucesor de Ajenatón, convirtiéndose así en la Gran Esposa Real, en 1327 a. C. Cuando su esposo restableció el culto a Amón y reabrió los templos, tras la revolución religiosa que llevó a cabo su padre, ambos cambiaron sus nombres, siendo respectivamente Tutankamón (antes Tutankatón) y AAnkesenamen.

nunca hubiéramos soñado algo así: una habitación –parecía un museo– repleta de objetos, algunos de ellos familiares, pero otros como jamás habíamos visto, amontonados unos sobre otros en una profusión aparentemente interminable". El egiptólogo británico Howard Carter resumía de este modo la impresión que tuvo al pasear la mirada por primera vez por las atestadas cámaras de la tumba del faraón Tutankamón, en noviembre de 1922. Era la primera vez que alguien contemplaba un ajuar funerario completo del Egipto faraónico que no había sido víctima de los saqueadores y ladrones de la Antigüedad. Por ello, el hallazgo no sólo ponía al descubierto un "tesoro" artístico único, sino que también constituía una oportunidad incomparable de estudiar y comprender el significado que el enterramiento y la vida en el más allá tenían para los antiguos egipcios.

Todo un enigma...

¿Sabias que? El agua del lago sagrado de Luxor su agua no se seca en absoluto y no aparecieron algas ni olores... el nivel del agua es fijo y no cambia sin aumentar o disminuir durante más de 3000 años a pesar de los factores de esculpido, pérdida, fuga y evaporación a lo largo de los siglos.

Es el Lago Sagrado de Luxor. Una de las maravillas de la antigua civilización egipcia ubicada fuera de la sala principal del templo de Karnak, y tiene 120 metros de largo y 77 metros de ancho. El equivalente a siete piscinas olímpicas.
