Weather has been extremely warm this winter. Many days lately have felt more like Spring. Most of you know that my precious Buddy passed away last November 12. Our favorite thing was to sit on our porch and watch the Sun dance on the mirror like bay. He never met a stranger and spoke to every neighbor and tourist who walked by. I knew to get the wine or sweet tea out when I would hear him say,”Where y’all from?” You can bet he would have them “just-a-swang’n” in a rocking chair or snuggled by the fire in his beloved library faster than you could say Howdey. I often teased that his payroll check from the Chamber of Commerce was either lost in the mail or they simply did not realize that he worked for them. A friend once joked that we have so many rockers on our porch that it looks like a nursing home. LOL! Fact is, Buddy had them all filled more times than not with some even sitting crossed legged on the floor. I guess he was truly what one would call a people person. Now this man was also an outrageously proud fifth generation Floridian. If anyone had ask me would he ever have the slightest thought of leaving Florida I would have laughed in their face at such a rediculous idea. Then we passed this sign on a gorgeous Spring Sunday morning on our way to vacation in Nags Head. The sign read, Edenton Historic District.” That’s it. That’s all it said. Being the History buff that he was he said,” Hey Babe! Mind if we stop in this little town for an hour or two?” Well frankly, the dog needed to p*e and I needed to stretch so of course I said “sure.” Little did we know that that sign, that exit , that gorgeous Sunday morning would change our lives forever. We knocked down trees limbs galore as Buddy manivered our motor home up and down the narrow historic streets. Well, we finally parked behind Town Hall . Partly to have room for the motorhome and partly to hide from the cops should they figure out who broke down all those limbs on every street in town. Believe it or not, we were still young enough to ride bikes back then. Out came the bikes and off we rode into what we both agreed was God’s perfect plan for us. I will halt this from becoming a novel by sparing you stories and details of the fabulous people and magical events of that day. We ended up staying five days rather than a couple of hours. We did go on to Nags Head and had a lovely evening. We both just wanted to come back to Edenton and we did. After several more visits we decided we were seriously in love and not just smitten with this small little town on the coast of Nort Carolina. We moved here with gusto and never looked back. Buddy said something to me just days before he passed that speaks volumes of his love for this place on earth. He said,” Ya know Babe, I would be uncomfortable leaving you in Florida. However, I have a real peace about leaving you in Edenton.” This quaint little town is well known for it’s rich, rich history. It is also known as the prettiest small town in the south. I will tell you what THE most special and important thing about Edenton is.
It’s the people!❤️ Truly! it’s the people!

Please bare with me as Burch House By The Bay and The Creek House is not for rent for afew months as I figure out who I am without my guy. All reservations already on the books will certainly be honored. Back soon:-)
