Five years ago it started with an idea. To be able to capture a couple's most important day in a modern, fun way, that they could share and relive over and over again.
Never did I think that over the years the business would have grown the way it did, or that friendships would emerge from this journey. One of the best feelings is when a past client reaches out letting me know they re-watched their video and still receive such enjoyment out of it. Those messages and really make my day (sometimes even my week). They are a reminder that I accomplished what I set out to do; to have successfully captured an important chapter; a start to a journey that they will always be able to remember and relive through my vision of storytelling.
Unfortunately, every story also has an end, and for ThisDayFWD, its journey will conclude in this Fall.
This would be much easier to announce if ThisDayFWD wasn’t being well received. But my splash of an idea for a compact, cinematic feeling of a wedding video rippled through the wedding community and somehow turned into a wave of interest in the past couple years. We’ve captured dozens of couples, but unfortunately have had to turn away hundreds and at the same time. There have been days, and many, many nights, when I wished there were five more of me.
This little business started out of passion, and over the years required me to insert more and more passion into every video. I feel I did that; I hope it shows. However, passion also equals time. Time away from friends, time away from family members, and time away from other memorable events. While I’ve truly enjoyed capturing all of these amazing couple's moments, I’m really looking forward to capturing more of my own personal ones with my family, and the only way I’ll be able to do that is with more free time.
So what does this mean for past and future clients? Past couples will still have access to their videos online at www.thisdayfwd.com as well as Vimeo. In the future (exact timing TBD), online videos will become password protected and those passwords will be emailed out accordingly. For future couples, nothing really changes. If anything, I’ve freed up more time this year to dedicate to your day and working on a tighter turnaround for your edited video.
Please know that I’m walking away with my head up high. I’m happy with all that I’ve accomplished and achieved, and I wouldn’t be feeling this way at all if it wasn’t for the feedback and support of all of you!
There is one bride I really must say a special thank you to. And that is the bride I said “I do” to. Caitlin Evans Rankin, you have been an amazing partner in this journey. The support you provided me to pursue a passion of mine is the definition of love, and I can’t thank you enough for that. While we close out this chapter together, I’m looking forward to the next.
Thank you all again for providing Cait and I this amazing opportunity to be part of your lives. We hope we were able to leave something special behind for you, your family and your friends, now and from this day forward.
