I started a new job with a call center and as soon as I completed orientation, they said, 'Congrats! We are closing our doors in 30 days.'
I had been commuting almost 2 hours back and forth, spent most of my earnings on childcare, and was lucky if I spent an hour or two with my girl before passing out and starting it all again the next day. With my first child, I did what I could - I worked nigh
ts, weekends, jobs I absolutely hated - sometimes 2 of them at once. But it never seemed to be enough. There **had** to be a better way. A smarter way of working, where I could spend more leisure time with my youngest child and be more involved in her education, get the opportunity to watch her grow - while making enough money to live on. So I started doing contract work online, and just as the pandemic was starting (though we didn't know it then), I started Smart Freelancing Parents LLC - a business founded on the idea of helping other parents find meaningful work from home that would give them the same freedom I have found. I want other parents that are struggling to be able to take care of their kids financially but not miss out on all the wonder and magic that occurs when you can take the time to do all the cool things. Science experiments. Camping at the coast. School field trips. Scouting. Random, spontaneous day trips to somewhere you have never been before. Fishing. A train ride to the big city to go to the science museum and the biggest book store you've ever seen. You know... the **really** good stuff. It's been tough for everyone since the world went crazy. But I hope we are coming out the other side, and that we have taken to heart the biggest lessons that the pandemic has gifted us:
Your Life is Precious. All of it - hearth, home, family, and freedom. Greet each day with gratitude. and don't take anything for granted. Freedom especially is something that we missed.
