UPDATE - 11/16/2020: Working with the State, we have determined that the exposure was isolated and there was no risk to the public. We are having employees tested before returning to work and having the offices cleaned thoroughly.

11/15/2020:
Due to a positive case of COVID 19 originating from the Town Clerk’s Office, the Town Offices will be closed until at least Wednesday to allow for proper contact tracing and deep cleaning of the building.

We appreciate your patience while we work through this situation. Departments may still be reached via email during this time. Other offices will remain open and/or accessible per their regular schedule.

Please stay tuned to the Town Website for a reopening announcement in the coming days.

New Hampshire’s Main Streets is on the Seven to Save New Hampshire Preservation Alliance 2020 list. In Exeter we know the importance of Main Streets!

Main streets across the state, vital to our economic and social well-being, are vulnerable and essential. COVID’s restrictions and changes have magnified the challenges they face —from theaters to sacred places to retail, dining and lodging establishments. Main street investment, especially in historic buildings and streetscapes, provides more property tax dollars per square foot than new construction. And it helps define communities, encourage community pride and engagement, attract families and tourists, and foster creative expression.

Seven to Save brings attention and resources to threatened and endangered historic properties throughout New Hampshire.

*UPDATE: Still missing! Dixie is still out there and was last seen around 8:20am on Amberwood Dr.* We need your help! Dixie was struck by a car and has fled into the woods in the Hampton Rd area on the East side of town. We are not sure how badly injured she is, but she did run and is probably very scared right now. 2020, what a year.

2020, what a year.

Dear Friends of The Exeter Inn, Epoch Restaurant & Bar and our beloved Exeter community,

In light of what the global pandemic, COVID-19, has become, the hospitality industry has been faced with some of the hardest business decisions ever imagined. The health and safety of our guests and employees have always been our top priority, and while we have been strident in our efforts by putting all federal, state, and local guidelines in place, we are unable to continue to financially support the standard of care for all of our “stakeholders” during these difficult and uncertain times. We have therefore been forced to make the unfortunate choice to suspend our hotel and restaurant operations for the remainder of 2020 starting today for Epoch Restaurant & Bar and August 8th for additional reservations and all hotel rooms on the 14th. (We had hoped to have our restaurant open for the remainder of the week, but with Tropical Storm Isaias looming and our outside dining being our draw, we decide it best for all to close effective immediately.)

While this decision was not made easily, we are gratified to share that by closing down our own operations, we are able to support the re-opening of another. The Exeter Inn will facilitate in allowing students at the Phillips Exeter Academy to safely return to campus this fall by opening our facility to allow for additional housing and operational space.

Brighter days are on the horizon, and we look forward to welcoming you back in 2021.

Be safe, be well.
The Exeter Inn Team

News from the museum.

Today we are announcing that the American Independence Festival is being re-imagined for the 2020 season to ensure a safe experience for all due to COVID-19. Following state and federal guidelines, there is no feasible way we can present a large-scale event on July 11, 2020 and ensure the well-being of all participants and the community as a whole.

Starting in July and continuing through our 2020 season, our re-imagined Festival sponsored by Newburyport Bank will focus on celebration and commemoration. The museum staff and Festival Committee are currently researching and developing ways to present elements of the Festival in new and nontraditional ways.

It is vital to the museum that any alternative activities for the Festival hold meaning for the community and museum guests. To that end, the museum has created a survey which we urge you to fill out and share your feedback about what you would like to see for virtual and possibly in-person programs and events related to the Festival. We highly encourage you to fill out the survey and help create a celebration of the American Independence Festival like no other. Thank you for your continued support of our museum!

Due the the hundreds of wildlife-related calls received at NH Fish & Game HQs yesterday alone, we thought it would be helpful to post some important information that obviously is not well known:

When wildlife such as fox are out in the daytime in the spring, it does not mean they are sick or rabid. Their young were born last month and they are out day & night hunting to feed them. Young also start to roam this time of year.

You DO NOT need to call F&G with your wildlife sightings! Avoid wildlife and do not approach.

Our Story

The VisitExeterNH website and corresponding social media channels showcase the beauty that is Exeter, New Hampshire located in the Seacoast region. A historic, cultural and recreational area, Exeter and Exeter based businesses are often on the "best of" lists.

Exeter was most recently featured in Yankee Magazine. It is the perfect article describing our little oasis. Here is the link, https://newengland.com/yankee-magazine/travel/new-hampshire/seacoast/exeter-new-hampshire-could-you-live-here/

Unique shops, cafes and restaurants line Water Street, Exeter’s version of Main Street. Rich in history and culture, Exeter is one of only three NH stops on the Amtrak Downeaster making it a perfect day or weekend get-a-way from Boston and Portland.

The warmer months bring much vitality to the town with weekly farmers’ markets, monthly antique markets, First Friday art walks, concerts and movies on Swasey Parkway, and Monday night brass band concerts courtesy of the Exeter Brass Band, the longest, consecutively performing brass band in the nation.
