While access to and staffing at national parks remain concerning, many state parks offer amazing options on par with the experiences provided by their federal cousins. Today we’re at Anza-Borrego Desert State Park’s Fonts Point. Staring off to the north and east, the view is reminiscent of standing at the edge of the Grand Canyon. California’s largest state park, covering 1,000 square miles, Anza-Borrego is just over an hour from Palm Springs and close to California’s Salton Sea. While its desert landscape is similar to Joshua Tree and Death Valley national parks, the flora and fauna in the park are different as the state park is in the Colorado Desert, near the Mojave Desert.

So be sure to consider state parks for group visits in conjunction with federal parks, even as a last minute additions to your itineraries. State parks in Oregon, Washington, California, Nevada and Arizona will be happy to have you! Reach out if you need advice!

Such an amazing morning at the Hall of Flame, basically a hall of fame for firefighter history, firefighters, and their equipment. Our fantastic docent Mark took us through the earliest history of firefighting and its technology, explained its relatively unknown connection to baseball, and even why the Dalmatian is recognized as the firefighting dog. The group was memorized! An absolute must the next time you’re in Phoenix!

Our California group enjoyed a fantastic morning cruise on Saguaro Lake! Six Bald Eagles spotted today! The lake is one of four reservoirs along the Salt River, whose waters run into the Gila and Colorado rivers. Thanks Desert Belle Cruises!

Another fabulous day in sunny Phoenix, here at the ! A fantastic collection of instruments from all over the world and fantastic displays of amazing artists. The purple piano in the photos belonged to Prince. Our guide today on the hourlong intro tour was Jeff, who the group kept for an extra half hour. They then asked for an extra half hour beyond our two hour scheduled visit to have more time to explore. Many said they would go back again next time they are in the Valley of the Sun. Gorgeous day in the Valley of the Sun and Day 1 of our 2025 tour. We were missing a few people for the group photo but they were off exploring Camelback Ranch - Glendale home of the Chicago White Sox and Los Angeles Dodgers. The A’s took the day with a win over the defending World Champs, 7-5. Tomorrow we’ll be at Salt River watching the Colorado Rockies and the San Francisco Giants after touring the fantastic Musical Instrument Museum - MIM. Visit Phoenix

I met Terry Gifford at Go West Marketplace about three years ago in Reno. There she told me about opening her home in the Skagit Valley in Washington to host tea for groups. I finally had the opportunity to check it out personally with a private tea with Terry and it was simply lovely. I picked my tea and my cup and we were off to the races in conversation. Terry really sets a (tea) table, including a sweetener of dried palm sap. It resembles brown sugar and really tastes amazing! I can’t wait to have one of our April groups at ! Thanks Terry!

These birds aren’t flying today but they are always an option for our Seattle tours! A flightseeing tour over the city and Lake Washington is a great way to view the region and celebrate the rich aviation history of the Pacific Northwest. We know a great restaurant in a renovated junior high school nearby or we’ll arrange for a box lunch on the deck for your group to watch the seaplanes come and go. Wine tasting and botanical gardens are close by too!

We’re so excited to be back in and meeting old friends before our group visits to for the amazing in April! The bulbs are just beginning to emerge and it’s looking like the blooms will be healthy and happy. Maybe you’ve been to Holland (MI) or Pella (IA), but we’ll bet you’ve never been here! Just an hour north of Seattle and you’re a world away. Small towns like Mount Vernon, Burlington, Sedro-Woolley and La Conner are waiting to be discovered.

Another “wow” near Palm Springs is the fantastic Living Desert, with flora and fauna from desert regions all over the world! A special docent-guided group tour includes transportation throughout the park and interactions with animals. We loved the wallaby enclosure where the curious creatures are allowed to approach visitors.
