If you're a cruiser, specifically on Carnival, which is what I mostly book as a Travel Agent, and you don't you use a travel agent, why? What's your reason? Is it due to cost, ease of online booking, preference for self-booking, or lack of knowledge about the option of using a travel agent or that you think the agent can’t use your vifp deals that you get booking on your own or something else.

I am just curious I am just wanting to see what some of the reasons are. I know I see lots of post of my friends going on cruises and I am curious are you booking on your own on Carnivals website, using another agent (if so that’s awesome I am all for supporting other agents as we are all just small independent business owners mostly), booking on a different 3rd party site or something else?

I would love any feedback you have.

Hey Guys I have a Cruise Deal For you that lines up with the Monroe County 24-25 Fall Break. It would be on the Carnival Freedom Monday Oct 7, 2024-Saturday Oct 12, 2024 it is a 5 day cruise to Amber Cove and Grand Turk. Which I will say we were just at both of those ports and they are both amazing ports and no excursion is necessary as there is a pool area at both and beach access at Grand Turk and port shopping also. We didn't see as much in Amber Cove as it rained while we were there but could for sure have a great day without an excursion. So I priced this for 2,3, and 4 guest. I did go ahead and include gratuity and travel protection for each guest which are both optional and can be removed from the price and gratuities can be paid on the ship if you would prefer. If you have cruised before you may have special promotions that we could check for I priced this without a vifp # so it is just the current promotion. Also if this cruise doesn't sound good to you we can find a different one there were several options for that week. Send me a message for details for this cruise or others.

So I was asked about the drinks from our recent cruise on the Mardi Gras and unfortunately I can’t really talk about them, I did think we would try more with so many bars on the ship and with Chad having the Cheers package all over the ship and I had free drinks in the casino, however that wasn’t the case. First we are not big drinkers anyway but we do usually drink a little on a cruise but I guess we do normally have someone that’s there to “babysit” Ellie if need be. This trip we didn’t it was just us and Ellie so I am sure that played a big role in why we didn’t even though we could have have since she spent a good bit of time at camp and our cabin was a minute walk from camp on the same deck. But honestly the biggest reason I think I didn’t drink in the casino was that you rarely saw a server, and if you don’t know the free drinks in the casino means you have to be playing meaning they have to come to you, you can’t go to the bar for it. So I probably got one drink a night so I usually chose a bottle of water or soda. I got an actual drink one night and planned to get a couple more but then never saw another server the rest of the night. The size of that casino and the amount of servers to the amount people in there is no where near enough.

Chad on the other hand had the Cheers package all over the ship meaning he could get a drink anywhere so he drank 2 twisted teas (that was new that was the first time they have had them) other than that he only used his package for soda and energy drinks and bottled water. Which is why we never purchase the package.

Now our next cruise In March we may be able to give a better review of the drinks on the Carnival Sunshine as he will have the Cheers package again and I have drinks in the Casino again and we do have a babysitter that cruise so to speak since my mom is going with us.We also are not traveling alone that time since we have other family going with us on that cruise as well.

My next post will be about the ports we Visited on the cruise. We went to Puerto Rico, Amber Cove and Grand Turk (I will add we did not do any excursions we stayed right by the port area since this was our first trip to any of these we figured there was plenty there that we hadn’t seen before and we were right)

Here are some of our pictures from the Carnival Mardi Gras New Years Cruise we definitely had a great time and some quality family time that was much needed. We had great service from everyone we interacted with. Overall the ship was clean in my opinion. We always saw the staff cleaning and clearing tables as quickly as possible in the areas we were in. I will say that service was hard to get in the casino which was a first for us normally day one might be hard but by day 2 and 3 you have a couple servers who already know you by name and what you are drinking. I am sure that this has to do with there just not being enough staff in the casino for the size of the casino and as many players for the size ship it is. I will say that we definitely found that we prefer the small to mid size ships after trying the Mardi Gras. Mainly due to the overall service we feel you get on them compared to a ship of that size. Like I said we definitely had fun, it didn’t affect our vacation but we did learn that it wasn’t for us. But we wanted to try a big ship as we have only tried small to mid size ships on the 8 years we have cruised and that also could be why we prefer that because it’s what we are use to but we were not the only ones that felt that way based on what we heard and I have read in the cruise group. There wasn’t anything this ship had that the small/mid ones don’t that we would miss.

I will say we did have a Family Harbor Interior Cabin which was very convenient to camp ocean. This is the first ship I have been on that camp was all the way down on deck 4 which I liked because it was easy to get to versus having to go all the way to the top of the ship at the front to get kids which the elevators are always horrible in the evening with shows ending and stuff. But having the family harbor cabin was very nice to be right outside camp and not have to walk from one side of the ship tot he other after picking Ellie up from Camp late at night. Where our cabin was there was a crew area entrance beside our cabin was and a corridor behind our cabin that at certain times was a little noisy when they were pushing carts through and stuff but nothing that kept us awake or woke us up. We had a square cabin which I really liked the layout of compared to the regular layout of the interior cabins. Our cabin steward was great. The family harbor lounge is a great idea we didn’t really use we got a drink one night and ice cream cone one day I think and we brought pizza and ate after camp one evening but it does close at 9 so we finished right at 9 and were told they were closing which was fine we were done. But if you had a family that needs a quiet place to eat breakfast or lunch would be great it was never loud in there. There is a drink machine and coffee machine in there. We never looked but they did serve breakfast in the morning and had sandwiches and stuff for lunch. Thy had cookies in the evenings. They also had the kids camp dinners there instead of them being on the lido deck like other ships which I liked Ellie actually ate dinner with them one night which we never let her do when it was on lido because I didn’t like the idea of them having to take her from Lido deck all the way to camp. The family harbor lounge is just around the corner from camp so we were ok with it especially since the night she went there were to camp workers and only 2 kids at the dinner. Ellie also loved camp this trip and begged to go and begged not to leave most days. She did have one incident with a boy that apparently liked her according to the camp worker and he said something inappropriate to her and Ellie told him to stop and he didn’t so she just started kicking him, the camp worker told me about it and asked me to please not get on to her because if someone had said it to her she wouldn’t like it either but that she told Ellie in the future she needs to tell someone but that she had to let me know. The kid didn’t mess with her the rest of the cruise.

So we just got home from a 7 day New Years Cruise on the Carnival Cruise Line Mardi Gras and there are definitely some things we loved and some things that were not our favorite personally. Overall it was still a great cruise and vacation because to me a cruise and vacation is what you make it. So I will start with sharing what pictures I have of the food I actually remembered to take. Because apparently I am not very good at remembering to do that lol. I will say we were not impressed with breakfast this cruise at all the change to the made to order omelettes having spinach is crazy I don’t see having that one the options taking any extra time. For us they still were made to order they still had all of the ingredients separate and added them one at a time. Overall the breakfast options could use an overhaul though on the buffet the breakfast meat options bacon every other day is fine but the you have ham every day maybe swap that for a pork sausage they have a sausage with onions everyday but in my opinion that taste like Vienna sausages with onions but just a sausage link or sausage patty to alternate with the bacon or ham would be good. They swap pancakes and French toast every other day but the French toast is more like dry bread maybe a different bread would be better for it than what they use. They do now toast all of the bread options versus having a toaster that you have to wait on which in theory is good except that once it sits for so long it’s like eating a crouton instead of toast. Again these are just my opinion and experiences that we just had on this cruise.

We were so ready to get off the ship for a different breakfast option. The brunch menu on sea days is so cut down it didn’t even look worth trying to take the time to go I guess breakfast in the dining room may have been better as we could have ordered off the menu but going to the dining room has never been our thing for breakfast.

As far as The extra restaurants on this ship we loved Seafood Shack, And Chibang. We didn’t have great experience at La Cucina the pizza Ellie ordered was essentially the same pizza as the other pizza, the mozzarella sticks appetizers we all ordered All of mine were so over cooked they were hollow and half of everyone else was. The pasta Chad and I ordered the pasta was over cooked to mush and the sauce was not good at all we took no more than 2 bites and let Ellie eat her pizza and we left and went and got something somewhere else for lunch. Maybe dinner is different but we were not willing to try a 2nd time. Shaqs chicken and Guys burger and Guys Pog and Anchor lunch buffet were just what we expected. We didn’t actually care for the breakfast at Shaqs but the lunch was good. Street eats we did enjoy trying the different things some we liked some we didn’t. We didn’t try Emrils bistro, Fahrenheit 555, Rudy’s, Sushi or Teppanyaki (we tried to get reservations and were wait listed all week make reservations before you get on the ship if you want to go we tried to make reservations night 1 for lunch or dinner any day). We had dinner in the Palm restaurant dining room and overall we had a great experience and some great food. We did find some new items we liked, got a couple past favorites and found some we didn’t like. We had great service in all of the restaurants we were at on the ship. So you definitely won’t go hungry on the ship but we sedate our share of pizza because it’s pretty much always good when there are not any other options that sound good. I will say this ship does know how to handle the crowds and lines when it comes to pizza and should teach the other ships to do it that way we never really ran into any really long lines or wait times anywhere for food but especially pizza because if you have cruised you know those late night pizza lines. Anyway if you made it this far thanks for reading and I will make more post about the ship and our experience.

So true. I say this all the time about booking a cruise with a travel agent. And it doesn’t cost you any extra for all of that knowledge, experience and service so why not use it. You are already paying for it it is built into the price of your cruise by the cruiseline.
