The Noyo Headlands Trail is one of the newest segments of the California Coastal Trail in Mendocino County and offers safe and easy access to the wild and rugged coastline just off Fort Bragg.

The trail has two Fort Bragg entry points – a northern entrance, with parking at the west end of Elm Street near Glass Beach, and a southern entrance, with parking at the west end of Cypress Street north of the Noyo bridge. The trail is multi-use, ADA-accessible, 8 feet wide, and has a paved surface. It offers spectacular views, parking, restrooms, and unique benches made by local artists and woodworkers.

Jug Handle Beach

Jug Handle Beach is just south of town and one of our most beautiful. Part of the Jug Handle Natural Preserve, Jug Handle Beach is at one end (start or finish) of the Ecological Staircase Trail that takes the visitor on a tour of the geological updrift from the coast to the Pygmy Forest two and a half mile inland. This marine terrace sequence illustrates a successional ecological story unparalleled elsewhere in California. It is also a gentle and easily accessible hike great for the whole family.

We had to share this footage our friend @mcgeehomegarden captured on his property over the last several months. He prefaced sharing sharing these videos with the following information: local black bear activity is: 1) a rare occasion, 2) in a safe environment, 3) active bear season is at a “close” now, as the bears are in “Hyperphagia”, gathering as many calories as they can, getting ready to sleep a long while (pre-hybernation).
