Octopus vs. Eel.
Paradise Reef, night dive, Cozumel, March 2021. Both survived this event.
Kris testing an automatic PFD. This type of life preserver self-deploys, an important feature if the wearer is thrown from a water craft and is unconscious. Many Game Wardens, Park Rangers, Law Enforcement Officers wear these on duty. Many boaters and fishermen do as well. If you own or are issued one, test it.
Shane testing out a manual PFD.
Jerry Goodson testing a manual inflatable PFD (personal flotation devise).
At the dive lake, training on some automatic and manual inflatable PFDs (personal flotation devices). Preparing for a new course. A survey of folks at the lake showed that while many of them owned or had used these types of life jackets, no one had deployed them. When asking for volunteers, all wanted to try it. Thanks go to Bryan Gall, Shane Coombs, Kris Gutierrez, Jerry Goodson.
During a recent training session, none of the attendees had deployed or witnessed an inflatable life jacket (PFD) inflate. These are worn by boaters, anglers, boat crews, and more. But, these are also worn by many Public Safety Officers during their shifts on the water. Park Rangers, Game Wardens, Lake Patrol Officers. If you own, or are issued one of these types of flotation devices, practice with it. Will it inflate properly? Will it float you in your duty gear? Know your equipment, as it will be your life saved. Thanks go to Garth, and the DCBE FD.
