The Monocacy, a state scenic river, is a beautiful, close-to-home escape from the hustle and bustle. Perfect for a lazy afternoon float trip, the river's forested banks are full of bird life, (including numerous bald eagles) and the air is full of "nature sounds"... With several great access points, the river can be floated in sections from 2 hours in length to all day!

Looking forward to being on the River this weekend!

When the River is too high and too contaminated for beginners, we don’t cancel class, rather, we have dry land training!...

The water is low, real low.... and we still have not replaced our tow vehicle. But if you can safely transport a canoe, and are willing to walk a lot of the river, we have them available for rental.. just no shuttle service... sorry...

In spite of our “wet” spring, the bottom is dropping out of the Monocacy very quickly....

Extremely low water has combined with a casualty to the prime mover (for our trailer ) to cause us to suspend operations (except for our classes) for the season...
Looking forward to a fantastic spring 2020!

Thanks to all of you who paddled with us this year!

Just a quick update on some of the challenges we have been facing this past two years... The Monocacy is a perfect river for a family float trip! ...when we are not getting mega-rainfall every other day or so...
When the river is high and muddy, it can be, quite frankly, a bit scary even for an experienced paddler!

So, to those of you who are frustrated with us, we share your frustration! And appreciate your understanding!

An update to a story we did where the City of Frederick was being sued by the Potomac Riverkeeper Network, that lawsuit has been dismissed.

This has been a tough season for MRCC... the constant rain has kept the Monocacy bank-full and muddy since May. Our decisions to limit when people can paddle, come from a life spent near rivers, hearing tragic tales of folks who weren’t ready for the hazards high water can create.
We hope you will continue to be interested in paddling this beautiful river in Summer 2019, when hopefully, our precipitation patterns return to some semblance of normalcy...

We wrapped up our 25th flat water canoeing class today... unbelievable fun! Unbelievable skill development!

With the past few days of rain, the water levels have rebounded! With the remnants of Irma on the way, we Aly go from too low to too high!

In case you want to check river conditions for yourself, 2' on the Frederick gauge is considered paddling 0.... you can check the river levels on line... just google Monocacy River water level...

Moving into our fall paddling season.... the water is low and slow... but really clear!

Hopefully river levels will stabilize a bit... we've heard the the far northern end (Harney) is at a fantastic level for paddling!

It looks like the water will still be a little too high this Mothers Day weekend for us to feel comfortable letting our boats onto the river.... See you on the 19th!

Hopefully, our still early Spring season will provide us with much needed rains. We were on the river yesterday, and it is much more like summertime levels than late winter! (this is much more than just for paddling... this affects us all! Water is Life!)
