I've been seeing a lot of people talking about the "issue" with the new Facebook Messenger TOS (Terms of Service). You need not worry, Android specifies generic categories for certain access, so you may see "Access Phone" or "Access Contacts" but that doesn't mean it has permission willy-nilly to access your phone or contacts. It simply means that some part of the code (feature) eventually needs to access it, usually when YOU select an option to do so. The new app is no different, it has a phone call feature, which can only be accessed by you. Though I always tell people to be concerned with apps that aren't mainstream the simple fact that a company like Facebook really did try to pull some shenanigans it would be seen on a code level immediately on release. And chances are any of the concerns for the TOS items can be found in other apps already on your phone.
