It’s hiking season folks! Time to remember to include checking the status of fire bans and where in the back country you may build a fire.

Yesterday GFC responded to 137 that burned 2,390 acres across the state. Conditions for today are SLIGHTLY better than yesterday, but we still need you to please be EXTREMELY cautious with anything that may start fires outdoors. Thank you! Photo is from Lumpkin County.

A WOMAN ONCE AGAIN HOLDS THE OVERALL RECORD ON THE APPALACHIAN TRAIL!!!! Congratulations to Tara MK Dower + to your mama + to Rascal + to the entire team for laying down an unbelievable 40 day, (54 mile per day) FKT. You are an inspiration. Thank you for going big, for raising funds for and proving that women competing at this level isn’t a fluke, it’s a fact!! Hope you enjoy lots of sweet rest and satisfaction in the days/weeks to come.

A new SoBo supported FKT record about to be set by Tara Dower .. 40 days approx 14 hours to run 2197 miles all for Girls on the Run… you can support them too.. see beliw link….

August 2024 I will be attempting to set the Fastest Known Time (Speed Record) on the Appalachian Trail. I want to hike/run 2,200 in under 41 days. My hope is to inspire women and girls to go for that tough goal no matter if it's with running or in life.
