Fall is definitely in the air in the Northeast! What adventures are in store for this October Saturday?? Share with Best Trip Choices!
Thanks Duke O' Fluke for a great day on the water. Lots of fish still in the water (and plenty of social distance) as the summer winds down.
Happy National Lighthouse Day! DYK the first light house was build in Alexandria, Egypt in the 3rd century BC and was one of the Seven Wonders of the World? It was destroyed by earthquakes ~1000 years later. Some more recent lighthouses from my travels here (in order) include Absecon Lighthouse, Chincoteague Island, Concord Point in Havre de Grace Maryland, and Mount Desert Maine, then the original Pharos of Alexandria. #2020 @ Atlantic City, New Jersey
Full moon climb at Absecon Lighthouse! 228 steps to the top of the tallest lighthouse in NJ, designed by Civil War General George Meade, Union commander at Gettysburg. The light keepers were not as impressed with my lighthouse mask as I expected. @ Absecon Lighthouse
Sunrise on Cadillac Mountain, Acadia National Park.
Summer might look a little different this year...how will you be enjoying the season?
Another Super Saturday at Heinz Refuge! Happy Memorial Day Weekend to our American followers. The unofficial start of summer looks a bit different this year but there is still lots of joy to be found.
@ John Heinz National Wildlife Refuge At Tinicum
Another beautiful trip through Wissahickon Park. Every time is a little different. This time, for bird fans, I spied gorgeous blue jays, cardinals, and an American redstart.
@ Wissahickon Trail
A gorgeous explosion of spring at Laurel Hill Cemetery! Dogwoods and cherry blossoms and white lilac!
@ Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Happy Earth Day from Best Trip Choices! More shots from Pennypack Park. This time a from Easter Sunday! @ Pennypack Park
View from (and of) the Pennypack or Frankford Bridge, the oldest road bridge in the US! Built in 1697 before the country even existed, it spans Pennypack Creek in Northeast Philadelphia.
@ Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Happy Easter from a neighborhood walk! đ°Rebirth is all around. đ¸Can anyone identify the blossoms? đ¸
@ Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Social distancing hike before social distancing was cool...November 2019
@ Susquehannock State Park
Spring trying to break through the clouds
@ Edwin B. Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge
Happy Fathersâ Day to all creatures great and small. Spend some time enjoying a trip into nature with Dad today!

The Washington Monument from the top of Arlington National Cemetery, established June 15, 1864. The heavy toll of the Civil War had rapidly filled the nationâs cemeteries, especially in the area near Washington. Robert E. Lee had called the property home less than 4 years earlier. A meaningful and beautiful stop for any trip to DC.
Happy Wild Wednesday (I just made that up) from Laurel Hill Cemetery overlooking Kelly Drive in Philadelphia. Laurel Hill, a National Historic Landmark, opened in 1836 as the countryâs 2nd rural cemetery, places that in the 19th century served as green space for urban dwellers and was even used as a recreation area on weekends.
@ Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Crystal clear reflections in the Wissahickon creek. Where will your travels take you this week?
Burnside Bridge, one of several pivotal encounters in the 1862 Battle of Antietam. Memorial Day was originally Decoration Day, a way to honor the almost 700,000 Civil War dead. Thank you to all who served and a happy Memorial Day weekend!
Our nationâs capital is more than just cherry blossoms at the tidal basin! The azaleas are peaking at the National Arboretum and thereâs lots of other nature to find right in the middle of the city, like This late-blooming Yaezakura cherry tree at Congressional Cemetery in Capitol Hill. DC can get pretty packed at spring break, but George Washingtonâs home of Mount Vernon is a welcome respite. Get more details on sights to see in Virginia at http://besttripchoices.com/us-touring-areas/washington-d-c-outskirts-virginia/
đ´More Assateague Island today! đ´ The wild ponies have been there for 100s of years living on the beach and marshes. Currently the horse population on the Virginia side is capped at 150 and managed by the volunteer fire department. Get more facts at Best Trip Choices (link in bio!)
@ Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge
The 142-foot-tall Assateague lighthouse, built in 1867, is still functioning in Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge on Assateague Island. Check it out this weekend!
