Diwali - Singapore - Nepal - India

Diwali is a big, colorful 5-day festival in Singapore from the end of October to November and is celebrated with as much enthusiasm as in India. Diwali celebrates the triumph of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance. Lamps often light up homes and streets. People set off fireworks and exchange gifts. Designs are made on the floor from colored sand powder and rice or flower petals.

No matter the time of year, festivals are unique experiences, allowing us to immerse ourselves in local culture, make friends, and understand how much we are alike in our desire to honor our traditions and pay tribute and thanks for what we have as we celebrate life.

Full Moon Lantern Festival - Hoi An, Vietnam
The Hoi An Lantern Festival is a must-see event. The UNESCO World Heritage Site of Hoi An celebrates this every month during the full moon. Lanterns are lit and line the streets and bridges, transforming Hoi An into a magical place. Little lights are also floated on the Thu Bon River as a symbol of good luck, prosperity and respect for ancestors.

That Luang Festival - Vientiane, Laos

Boun Pha That Luang is the most meaningful festival in Laos. It is a 3-7 day festival, usually in early November. The first evening. People carry flowers, candles, and incense and decorate wax castles in processions wearing Lao ethnic costumes. There is dancing and traditional music. Hundreds of monks come from around the country to pay homage at the stupa. After people in the crowd play a game resembling hockey, there is one last candle-lit procession with fireworks.

Loi Krathong & Yi Peng - Thailand

In November, locals and visitors celebrate Yi Peng festivals in northern Thailand and Loi Kratong in the south. Loi Krathong is a mesmerizing spectacle of candlelit little vessels floating on waterways against the backdrop of a full moon. People of all ages gather to release their Krathongs, symbolizing letting go of their troubles, negative thoughts and bad luck.

Yi Peng was originally a separate event in the North. Now, it is celebrated with Loy Krathong. It is a magical festival with the release of lanterns into the night sky and a time to make merit, honor Buddha and ask for good luck and wisdom.

Thupten Choeling Monastery's captivating journey began in the vibrant 1960s. At the heart of its establishment was Trulsik Rinpoche, a distinguished lama known as the 31st reincarnation of a revered master from Tibet's oldest Buddhist lineage. His deep wisdom and teachings even influenced the Dalai Lama himself.
Once a bustling center of spirituality, this monastery proudly held the title of the largest in Nepal, with more than 900 monks and nuns calling it home. It also stood as a beacon of hope and refuge, serving as the largest Tibetan resettlement camp in the country for those bravely escaping the turmoil of Chinese occupation in Tibet. Thupten Choling Monastery remains a remarkable testament to resilience and faith, woven into Nepal's rich tapestry of Tibetan culture.

South Korea in the Fall

There are innumerable Fall events, such as the Busan International Film Festival, Seoul Fashion Week, The Andong Mask Dance Festival, the Jarasum Jazz Festival and the Gwangju World Kimchi Festival among others. Enjoy the Chrysanthemum Festival with thousands of colorful flowers made even more vivid against the autumn leaves. October is also a perfect time to go to the southern city of Jinju for the world-famous Jinju Lantern Festival. The Nam River has floating displays, and the city’s bridges are covered in thousands of lights. The festival celebrates important military battles. Visitors can purchase lanterns, write their wishes, and set them afloat down the river. A bit farther south, in Busan and Jeju Island, fall colors begin in late October and continue into November.

There’s never a bad time to visit South Korea, but traveling in the Fall can elevate your trip to another level. October to November is the best time to enjoy dry skies, crisp air, pleasant temperatures, and a beautiful cascade of colorful foliage, including the famous golden ginkgos.

A few hours north of Seoul, Seoraksan National Park is a tentative World Heritage Site and Biosphere Reserve. It is known for its natural splendors and mountain views and is one of the first areas where the leaves start to turn color in late September.
