Do you know that your brain is more active when it's not focused on doing something specific?

Studies show that unplugging and letting your thoughts wander is good for your brain, body, and mental health.

Unplugging increases brain activity, helps it to function better, allows the brain to fully process reflective thoughts, spatial ideas, and visual informations.

Allow yourself to rest from work, and your electronic devices.

Even activities like taking a nap or going for a walk can boost your productivity.

With less than two weeks to go until the end of the year, wouldn't it be nice to create new energy in your surroundings with only things you love, enjoy and have meaning to you?

One way to achieve this is to clear out your living space of stuff you no longer use, need or care about.

We all have stuff like that.

Take fifteen minutes a day to go through your things and decide what you are getting rid of.

Even if you touch one item a day, you will feel a difference.

Don't know what to do with the items you want to dispose of?

Feel free to toss, sell, donate, or recycle them.

Make room for new goodies and new energy in the new year!

It’s ok to take a break or two or three during the day.

Your body and mind will totally thank you for it, and when you get back to work,

you will get so much more accomplished.

Write things down.

Our short-term memory is called 'short' for a reason.

It can keep information for 20-30 seconds.

So it is very beneficial to write things down.

I write things down all the time.

Not only does it help you to remember, it can assist you in organizing your thoughts and creating a plan for getting your tasks completed.

In addition, writing things down helps to clear your mind, and get focused.

Do you feel burnout from time to time?

Burnout is about more than long hours.

Nonstop work is part of what leads to burnout, but it's not the whole picture.

Enduring productivity is often about balancing an intense session of work with periods of rejuvenation.

Instead of thinking about ways to prevent burnout, ask yourself how you can fill up with energy, creativity, excitement, and fulfillment.

Once a quarter, do a massive decluttering of your inbox and archive all messages older than 2-3 months, if you still need to hold on to them.

You will free up space, and also get rid of emails you will most likely never look at again.

Who needs thousands of emails sitting there in their inbox?! It's like having stuff in your closet you will never use.

Since we are at the end of the fourth quarter, this is a good time to do this task.

As emails you are subscribed to roll into your inbox, make a snap decision about whether you actually read them or if unsubscribing is a better option.

I will be decluttering of my inbox as well!

Here is a quick process to start decluttering your space.

It can be modified for any type of project whether it is office or home related.

1. Scan the room.

2. Picture in your mind what goes where, what gets thrown out, what gets donated and so on.

3. Pick up one item at a time - this helps to stay on focus.

4. Ask questions: Why do I need this? What will I be using it for?

5. Know that nothing is etched in stone - If you have trouble deciding whether to keep an item or let it go, revisit it in another month.

You’ll likely have a better idea if you need or want it anymore.

Focus on positive thinking.

To find long-term happiness or contentment, spend a few minutes each day looking for positives in your life.

One way to do this is to make a gratitude list.

Keep a notebook or pad and every evening write down five things you were grateful for that day.

Never underestimate the importance of recognizing the silver linings in life.

Designate some internet-free time every week.

While a lot of our work does rely on the internet, there are things we need to get done that doesn't require it.

These are often the tasks that we avoid the most.

Turn off your Wi-Fi for a couple of hours every week and dive into those tasks.

11/27/2024

We all have to-do lists (or most of us do).

The thing about to-do lists is most people do them one at a time, starting from the top one.

It may be better to think about how much time the task is going to take.

If you have ten minutes between zoom meetings, knock-off a tiny task.

If an appointment is delayed two hours, tackle a larger item.

Do what you can when you can.

You'll be amazed by what you are able to accomplish throughout the day.

11/22/2024

Just Do It!

Like most things in life, there's always something else that needs to be done, or that takes our attention away from certain tasks.

Distractions reduce our productivity. If you want to get things done, just get on with it and do it.

Jump right in and remove anything that comes between you and the task at hand.

You will feel better for getting it done.

11/20/2024

Define three daily outcomes every morning -

This isn't your to-do list.

These are three outcomes that you want to accomplish by the end of the day.

It makes for a great visualization exercise as well.

11/18/2024

If you didn't already clear your desk by the end of the day on Friday, do it first thing this morning.

It's a great way to start your Monday.

When your desk is clear, it helps you focus on what needs to be accomplished for the day.

Only keep files you are currently working on close by.

Have a great day!

11/15/2024

We are living in crazy times.

Remember to take a few deep breaths throughout the day.

Every day.

A little chocolate couldn't hurt either.

11/13/2024

It’s ok to say No.

You may not want to disappoint anyone, but for your own productivity, learn how to say "no" to them.

It isn't always the greatest feeling, however you're not going to appease everyone.

If you said "yes" to everybody and every request, you would have no time to do what you need and want to accomplish.

It's ok to say No.

11/11/2024

What are the most important things you need or want to accomplish today?

Instead of attempting to do all the things on your To Do list, concentrate on the one to three tasks that will make the most impact.

If you have time after that, do the next one.

There's no need to add stress to your day. Take a deep breath...and go!

11/08/2024

Schedule activities that bring you joy.

Plan things that make you happy just as you would a business meeting.

Schedule lunch with a friend once a week or a walk in the park.

It may sound silly to schedule these types of things, however, once they are in your calendar, you are more likely to follow through with them every time.
