A bit of history:
In summer of 2010, we first listed The Gig Harbor Guest House on VRBO. If you recall, this was a few years before airbnb existed and VRBO was just a listing service (VRBO stands for Vacation Rentals By Owner) Owners or managers connected directly with people who wanted to stay. The house had a business license from the state, collected and submitted sales and lodging taxes and I had a contract with a company so I could accept payment by credit card. When we started, People didn't really understand the concept, kept asking me how the bed and breakfast was going...
In 2019, I changed the business model and decided that this rental would have a one month minimum. It is listed on furnished finder. I am happier with this set up. Furnished Finder started with a niche market of travelling healthcare and listings still include distance to hospitals, but most of our business has been travelers who have a connection of some sort to Gig Harbor and want to live here for a few months.
I have another listing on Furnished Finder and it is again a concept that people are not quite familiar with. A new construction house, furnished, great neighborhood (walking distance from the historic downtown but not quite in it) House has 4 bedroom suites (each with own on suite bath and walk in closet). Kitchen, great room (with a view) laundry, powder room and entry are shared. Rooms are single occupancy only, so shared with up to 3 others. A very specific demographic, but a wonderful opportunity for people who it works for. Background checks for everyone coming in. As of today, The Gig Harbor Guest House is fully booked for 2023. Next availability is January. Have already booked February and have a lot of interest for summer of 2024.
