Bon tardi from Curacao! We hired a local taxi driver for a customized island tour before being dropped off in Punda, the main part of town. On the tour we learned some Papiamento, picked up some old license plates at our driver's home for souvenirs, got amazing Watamula Hole photos and a video I will share next, took a swim at beautiful Grote Knipe Beach, and stopped for some coconut water. After the tour we stopped at a food hall meant for the locals to try iguana soup and the papaya and short rib stew. Both were just ok. We were hoping to walk across the Queen Emma pontoon footbridge. It swings open instead of a traditional draw bridge for boats to pass through but it was open at the time. There is a free ferry next to the bridge we used instead to get back to the boat. Enjoy!

Bon dia from Bonaire! This island is known for scuba diving its vibrant coral reefs as well as a variety of water sports such as kite boarding and wind surfing. We took an island tour that ended with snorkeling. We saw amazing fish just off the shore line, many I have never seen on other snorkel excursions, such as a Peacock Flounder! Roaming donkeys like "Chocolata" and flamingos are also common sightings. There is a large Cargill plant harvesting salt which makes for a great souvenir. At only 24 miles long and 3-7 miles wide, this is also an island easy to explore. Even though it's a little bigger than Aruba, Bonaire only has 25,000 inhabitants while Aruba has 100,000. Only 220 cruise ships dock here each year.

Bon Bini from Aruba! We were docked from 8am to 11pm so we rented Jeeps at the port to take full advantage of our time. We drove to Baby Beach for a quick swim, got a photo at the Red Anchor, explored the Natural Bridge and Arikok National Park, did some shopping at the Aloe Factory, and ended our day with another swim as well as dinner on Palm Beach. At 21 miles long and 6 miles wide, it is possible to explore the entire "one happy island" in a day.

Day 1 and 2 of our ABC cruise vacation. We spent the night at one of my favorite hotels, the Riverside! Located on Las Olas Blvd, it has a bit of historical charm to it. Shops and restaurants in the front, the intercoastal waterway in the back. Not beach front but we will be seeing gorgeous beaches once we set sail. I am not sure why but they upgraded us to a suite!

Our trip to the ABC islands started off smoothly on Friday! This time flying on Frontier because the prices were considerably better than American. We splurged on the "big front seats" which just really means a little more leg room for Jim and the middle seat remains unoccupied. But, it included 2 free 50lb checked bags for each of us plus carry-ons and a personal item. Dangerous for us, we tend to overpack!

The A in the ABC islands, Aruba is not to be missed. With non-stop flights offered from both Philadelphia and Newark as well as a cruise ship destination, this island is fairly easy to reach. This is one of my favorite cruise destinations. There is a lot to see and do so you won't be bored. You will find cacti as well as palm trees dotting the island. The beaches are gorgeous with clear blue water and a slow drop off from beach to ocean. You can tour a fsctory that makes products from aloe vera or hop on a 4x4 to drive along the rocky coastline.

Bonaire is the lesser known of the ABC Islands. It is one of the most unique islands I have visited. Rich with marine life, it is a snorkeler or diver's dream destination. It is also a popular place to wind surf. The salt flats at the Cargill Salt Factory is a sight not to be missed. Bonaire is home to a flamingo sanctuary as well. It can also be reached by direct flights from Newark or by cruise ship.
