Once again, we've reached the end of our fishing season. 2024 started off a little slow for us on the bookings front, but gained momentum, and finished with a bang. As always, we want to thank all of our customers, both regulars and new. Without you, our business wouldn't exist. We always strive to provide the best experience and customer service we can, and hope that we did just that.

Fishing this season was very steady, no days being too bad, and some days being exceptional. The haddock numbers were good throughout the summer, with great mixes of cusk, redfish and Po***ck. The fall codfish catch was good this year, with most trips in September and October seeing plenty of cod between 5 and 15 lbs.

We also had another great year of working with the US Navy on the couple of occasions. Working with members of our country's Navy is always a highlight of our season.

We're already hard at work making repairs and improvements on the Lady Sea for next season. In the meantime, we would like to wish everyone a great holiday season and a mild winter. We look forward to seeing everyone again in April.

Last but not least, we want to thank our crew. Our crew are our face and our voice to our customers. Our operation is only as good as them, and they continue to be exceptional.

Best regards,
Carolann, B***y, Mike and the crew of the Lady Sea

Marathon fishing was pretty epic today. The weather was a little sloppy early in the morning, but broke around 9 and was beautiful the rest of the day. We used the chute all day, drifting without any real trouble. The dogfish were there, but not overpowering. Most people came close to a limit of haddock, we had several 7 to 9lb po***ck and a whole bunch of nice cusck. The fish bit all through the day.

We still have space available for Sunday's all day, give us a call 978-559-1978

Wednesday's 3/4 day was our first back after working with the US Navy for the last week. The day did not disappoint. Weather was nice, and we were able to drift on the chute all morning. Had an awesome steady pick of nice haddock the entire trip. Still have some space available for sundays all day, give us a call, 978-325-2142.

Thursdays private charter was with a group of long time customers of ours. The fishing was spectacular, with 1 stop lasting 3 hours. The haddock were hungry, and we caught some unexpected Po***ck and cusk. We also had probably the biggest haddock I've seen in years, somewhere around 7+ lbs.

We still have a couple spots on Saturdays marathon. Don't forget, all of our full day and marathon trips are capped at 35 passengers for comfort. Give us a cal 978-559-1978

Had a good, solid weekend of fishing on the Lady Sea this past weekend. Saturday's marathon started off slow, with a bunch of tide in the morning. By the afternoon, we found an awesome pile of haddock and decent sized redfish that were very cooperative.

Sunday's all day trip was actually opposite of Saturday. We had a good bite for a few hours in the morning, then it slowed down in the afternoon. The tide was running hard, but with our limited loads of people, tangles were more than manageable. That's the great advantage of limited capacity.

The fishing has been steady, and summer weather is finally here (for the most part). Give us a call 978-559-1978

Saturday's marathon was a little cold and raw, with the breeze picking up as the morning went on. However, we were able to put a good day of fishing together, with a lot of nice haddock and a pool winning cusk. We started off anchored up for the morning, then switched to the chute for the afternoon. The fishing has continued to impress. Give us a call.

A beautiful day on the water today. The fishing was pretty hot all morning, a little slower through the afternoon. The numbers added up by the end of the day. The average was about 5 keepers per person, with several anglers breaking 10. Even when it slowed down, we kept picking through the afternoon. We were able to drift in under 200 ft of water all day, awesome. Next Saturday's 12 hour marathon has a few spots left, give us a call.

Solid day of fishing on today's marathon. The haddock cooperated, we had a steady bit throughout almost the whole day. Unfortunately we had to battle rain and a persistent 3ft sea most of the day, but steady fishing made up for it. Booking trips on the weekends through May, give us a call. Don't forget, all of our trips are limited capacity for comfort and a better fishing experience.

From Captain Mike,

Admittedly, the fishing for us so far this season has been a grind. We have had some decent trips, mixed with some really slow fishing. The haddock this year for us have been spotty and tough to keep biting consistently. I know that I'm not painting the prettiest picture of fishing lately, but it is extremely important to me to be honest when it comes to these reports. I think that as an industry, it's easy to report when the fishing is great and the fish just seem to jump on the boat. I've been lucky enough to have more than my fair share of good fishing over the years. But, right now, the bite has been slow. The fishing will get better, then it will get slow again, then it will heat up again. That's fishing. That's the reality of going out onto the ocean and counting on wild fish stokes to cooperate day in and day out.

However, on the same note, our level of effort and dedication to trying to put our customers in the best position to catch fish has never changed. On the Lady Sea, we always try to go above and beyond for our customers. Not just with fishing either. We are a small family, family owned business, and our relationships with our customers mean everything to us.

A recent Google review from an unhappy customer has brought up some thoughts for me on the subjects of customer service and fishing productivity as they relate to each other. I'm paraphrasing, but basically the customer said the boat and crew were great, but the fishing was exceptionally slow. Then the person went on to say that as a company we should have offered him a discount to come back because he himself didn't catch a keeper. The last part of the review stated that giving a future discount would have been the right thing to do, but we're obviously all about money and he wouldn't be back.

My first thought, is that I appreciate the mans honest account of his experience. Although he was unhappy with the fishing, he gave credit to our operation where it was due. Our crew is friendly and fun, and are very good at what they do. We are very proud of the way they make us look as a business.

Where I take offense with the gentleman's review, is the last part. I personally have been in and around this business for 25 years now. I have never once encountered an operation around the world that would return ticket fair for a slow day of fishing. I would be lying if I said i don't run this business to make money. It is a business. However, this is a labor of love for me personally. Slow fishing is aggravating and tough for me too. But that's the game that is fishing, it doesn't always work out in our favor. But to say that we as a company are all about the money because of slow fishing speaks to a lack of understanding of how this industry works. As a business we have cost ourselves countless thousands of dollars over the years putting the customer first, and we will continue to do so when it's the right thing to do. We pride ourselves on that. But slow fishing is not that kind of situation in our business. On that particular trip, I put in an extreme amount of effort trying to put fish on the boat. Without hesitation, I burned a huge amount of fuel trying to make it happen. The fuel burned actually lowered our bottom line for the day significantly.

So, in the future, if you want to write about a bad day of fishing, I encourage you to do so as it is your right. However, badmouthing the company that put in a huge amount of effort to try to make your day better because they wouldn't give you a discount is unfair.

OPENING DAY FOR THE LADY SEA
Saturday, April 8th, FISHING REPORT

Saturday’s marathon trip was our first day of the season. We had a windy Friday into Saturday morning, and the weather was a little bumpy to start the day. As the morning went on, the weather got much nicer. Although, it was cold out.
The fishing was mediocre. We started out in 250ft of water, with a good sign of life on the bottom unfortunately, it didn’t translate to a lot of fish on the deck.

From there, we spent the day exploring up onto Jeffrey’s ledge. The fishing stayed spotty all day, some on bait, some on jig. We ended the day with a mix of haddock, cod, cusk, Po***ck and redfish.
Reports from other charter boats around us were the same as what we did all day. Just mediocre fishing following a windy day. Totally normal. However, there’s a lot of life to the east and north. We expect that the fishing will be steady going through the spring.

Our fist halibut on a fippennies ledge trip. 165 lbs after being on ice for 8 hours. Great job crew, experience of a lifetime. It was caught on a 6ft solid fiberglass boat rod with a 1980's penn jigmaster. Proof that anything is possible.

Weekend Fishing Reports

Friday, May 20th

Friday, we had a private charter from 7AM to 4PM. The fishing was very slow east of Gloucester. We covered a lot of bottom, ranging from 200 ft to 280ft. Nothing seemed to work. The weather was almost too perfect: no breeze, no tide. A slow pick all day with one halfway decent stop at the end of the day.

Saturday, May 21st
After the slow fishing on Friday to the east, we ventured north to Jefferies on Saturday. Much better choice: steady pick all day in 150 ft of water. We did have to deal with some codfish, but it was well worth it.

Sunday, May 22nd
Best day of the weekend for fishing. We went to Jefferies again, but fished off the edge from 165 to 215 ft of water. The haddock were extremely hungry, biting both jigs and bait. We only had 25 people on the boat, we had almost a full limit of haddock. Each customer averaged 13 keepers. Home run.
