Congratulations ABJ and here’s to hoping for a successful nesting season 🤞

I was thrilled to spend a little time with ABJ, the oldest known banded loon. He is back for his 37th birthday...and a new mate. Hopefully, they will have some success. It would be great to see him hatch his 33rd or maybe even 34th chick at Seney National Wildlife in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.

An hour drive from Grand Marais (that’s just across town by UP standards 😉)…Grand Island is a great day trip.

One of my favorite spots, locals call "Top of the World", others call it the "Grand Island Harbor Scenic Overlook" but from this spot you can see a lot of the Pictured Rocks. Indian Head Rock (11.91miles) is the furthest left on the horizon. Then the Rainbow Cave(11.85 miles), followed by Lover's Leap (10.35miles). Miner's Castle (6.42miles) is just on the right edge of the frame. The East Channel Light house on Grand Island in the center foreground is 2.08 miles away.

Not only are we the perfect hub to experience everything on the east end of the UP….we also have amazing attractions and experiences of our own!

Did you know that Grand Marais is the perfect central location to see the EUP? Not only are we a major attraction, we are in the middle of so many day trips! East or west there is so much to see!

As warmer weather sets in, we're getting ready to open the campgrounds and inviting visitors to join our interpretive programs.

Saturday night the cabin was surrounded in Northern Lights. We had no capability of photographing them but these amazing rays caught by one of our favorite UP photographers depicts the experience.

They say the moon makes it hard to see the aurora... maybe sometimes... but not last night!

🌲 Find the Right Tour for You: Check out authorized commercial tours in the park, including boat cruises, kayak tours, and more!

🌲 Be Prepared for Bugs: Bring your long pants and bug net!

🌲 Know Your Limits on the Water: Paddling on Lake Superior is extremely different than paddling on small, inland lakes and ponds. Only experienced sea kayakers should attempt to paddle on the open lake. Pictured Rocks has several smaller inland lakes to paddle, or book a guided kayak tour if you are not an experienced sea kayaker!

🌲 Leave No Trace: Pack out what you pack in, this includes food scraps like apple cores and orange peels! Dispose of your waste properly - for garbage, put it in park-provided trash cans; for human waste, please use park-provided toilet facilities, portable tent-style toilets are not permitted, as they pose a safety risk to our custodial staff.

We are thrilled to announce Tracey’s is reopening on Tuesday, May 14! Our new hours will be Tuesday-Thursday, 5-9pm and Friday-Saturday 5-10pm. To best serve you & get you seated faster we have transitioned to walk-in only service and will no longer be taking reservations.

Here comes the bride!

Bridalveil Falls, visible just northeast of Miners Beach, is most visible this time of year, as snow melt and spring rains feed the falls!

We’ve gotten a bit of rain this weekend and last week, so the falls are running strong! During dry summers, Bridalveil can be little more than a small trickle.
