Our Epic Field Trip

We are racking up the non-RV experiences this year. Our latest epic field trip was on our Alaska cruise where we explored the Inside Passage region of southeast Alaska, and it was truly amazing. We already know we definitely want to go back for some land-based adventures by RV. Who has been to Alaska by RV? Rental or your own RV? We ventured out of the RV for some vacation-style travel last week.

First we braved the big-city streets and got the rig to an "RV Park" (aka "parking lot" 😂) just across the river from NYC and spent a day exploring the High Line Park and Hudson Yards. The view from The Edge is amazing !!

Then we boarded the Oasis of the Seas for the epic group cruise hosted by Today is Someday by You Me and the RV with our travel agency (ViaVista Voyages by Dream Vacations). It was a non-stop, action packed 5 days to Saint John, New Brunswick, and Halifax, Nova Scotia. So many really wonderful people in our group of 104 🥰.

We explored Saint John by kayak, on foot, and on bicycles (phewee that was a challenge!) and enjoyed a leisurely day discovering the beauty of Peggy's Cove outside Halifax.

Our sea days were blessed with smooth sailing and sitings of whales 🐋 and a huge pod of dolphin 🐬 and fun group gatherings and activities 💓.

We definitely want to go back to New Brunswick and Nova Scotia for an extended time in the RV, so if you have any tips and/or must-see/do places, let us know in the comments below 🤩.

Hanging out at our favorite FL beach destination this morning, reflecting on the past year and pondering the year to come and where our travels may take us. It's been a Back to the Future couple of weeks, in the best way. Five years ago today, we were boarding a plane back to CLT after spending 10 days in the magnificent Yellowstone, Grand Tetons, and greater Jackson Hole area with our hearts inspired and our minds racing to figure out how we could transform our lives to prioritize having experiences together. We thought it would be a great way to celebrate that decision by returning to the area that sparked Our Epic Field Trip.

If you've never been to this area, we can't say enough that you should come sooner rather than later. We can share our pictures and attempt to describe the amazingness . . .

- black glass rivers sparkling as the low slanted light scatters diamonds in the riffles
- losing count of all the shades of blue you see while looking at Yellowstone Lake under clear skies
- dappled verdant sunlight through stately pines
- thundering waterfalls through sharp v-shaped canyons
- steaming thermal features exhaling ancient breath from the center of the earth
- the aggressive brash Teton range flexing its chest at the stoic brooding older brother Yellowstone mountains.
- the ever present possibility of encountering iconic wildlife

We could go on and on but others have written better words and taken more gorgeous pictures, and ultimately words and pictures can never really have the impact of actually exploring this place.

Coming back here has just confirmed that our crazy leap of faith into the unknown and uncertain future was the right choice for us. We have no regrets and are primed for more!

The past two weeks in Colorado have been magical. The Crested Butte and Creede areas are a little more "off the beaten path" than much of Colorado, and sometimes we felt like we had whole mountains to ourselves. We hung out with friends, did some amazing Jeep rides, toured the Rocky Mountain Biological Laboratory in Crested Butte, learned about mining history at Last Chance Mine, dipped our toes in the Rio Grande, picnicked by alpine lakes, and so much more ! Even though we've been to Colorado so many times, we still kept saying WOW! and couldn't get enough of the beautiful scenery, spectacular wildflowers, and cool mountain temperatures. Of course, we'll be back 🥰.

We explored around the Granby area for a couple of weeks and loved the combination of lakes, mountains, cute towns, and rodeos! This area has great access to Rocky Mountain National Park from the west side where the lines and crowds are not nearly as long or thick as the more popular Estes Park entrance. The town of Grand Lake is one of the cutest mountain towns you'll ever see. There are so many activities in this area; we couldn't fit everything in! Of course, we spent a day in Rocky Mountain National Park, and we also squeezed in a boat ride with friends and a night out at the small local rodeo. We just may have to come back to this area to explore more.

Have you ever just jumped in the car, picked a road, picked a direction, and just see what happens? We love those kinds of days, and today was a great example of why. We struck off north of Granby through epic cowboy country. Along the way we discovered an awesome gift-book store truly in the middle of nowhere, had an excellent lunch at a place we would’ve never stopped but was recommended by gift store owner, strolled through a small town festival with car show, and took a “shortcut” down dirt roads through forests and over peaks. The wildflowers put on a spectacular show, and the views were endless. Happy day 😄!

This is an awesome RV!!!

We have finally made the decision, yacht life is the bomb! We may go back to RV life one day, but for now, its boat living at it's best for us. Here we go starting The Great American Loop soon.

Maintenance and repair events are a necessary aspect of full-time RV life because, you know, stuff happens. For us, 2021 dealt us a more than generous dose of incidents (lessons?) that piled up a bunch of stuff that needed to get fixed. We had not been happy with the service provider we’d been using, so we decided to try the RV service community in Red Bay, Alabama. WAIT! But that’s where Tiffin’s are manufactured, and we have an Entegra Coach – not a Tiffin. Check out our blog post for the details on our experience and why it’s a great idea to go to Red Bay even if you’re not a Tiffin.

The last few days of the BalloonFiesta continued to deliver amazing sights and experiences! We thought we had seen all the shape balloons earlier in the week, but there were so many more and new special shape balloons on Shape Days 😁. The field in front of our rig was busy again with lots of balloons coming in for their landings, and a few even stopped short and landed right next to rigs 😳! We had some beautiful sunsets shining on Sandia Peak, and the fireworks 💥 shows were spectacular!! We’re already thinking about coming again next year 🤔.

We got right out in the middle of the fiesta field to check out the “behind-the-scenes action” of ballooning. It was so cool to see the before and after process, and being surrounded by balloons lighting up for morning and evening glows was a top-tier life experience, no doubt!! This morning we were woken up by the sound of balloon burners and rushed out of the rig to find ourselves surrounded !! Many balloons landed in the “box” in front of us, and Scott even ran out to help with the landings. Everyday so far has exceeded our expectations, and it’s not over yet !🤩!
