☎️ Hello, operator! ☎️ The Walker Building was completed in 1927 and the second floor housed the Southern Bell Telephone Company. It was designed with the most up to date equipment at the time and switched from the magneto to the battery system. Cables were wired directly to this location which removed many of the unsightly wires that ran up and down Trade Street.

To make a call, you would first remove the phone from the receiver, which would notify the operator that you needed to make a call. This was an upgrade from previously needing to turn the crank to get central. The operator would then connect you to your preferred contact.

Mayor B. A. Bennett turned the switch on at 9:45pm on a Saturday evening in September 1927 where numerous telephone officials, prominent business men, and telephone operators were present.

The 23rd Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Luncheon will be held on January 20, 2025 at the Event Halls at Greer City Hall and will feature keynote speaker Dorris “Dee Dee” Wright.

The City of Greer invites the community to join in honoring the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. This meaningful celebration will feature uplifting music, powerful performances, thought-provoking videos, a shared meal, and an inspiring keynote address.

The event also highlights the Samaritan Award recipients, recognizing individuals who have significantly impacted the community.

Limited tickets are available for purchase for $10.00 per ticket at:

Christmas at the Museum is THIS Saturday! Join the Greer Heritage Museum for a presentation about the delightful history of Christmas in Greer. Free holiday photos and treats will also be provided.

The program will take place at 10:30am and 1:00pm on Saturday, December 14.

The museum is also collecting canned and dry food for Greer Relief & Resources Agency, Inc.

2. Turn in your passport to Greer City Hall or Cartwright Food Hall (Little Leaf Coffee counter). Each additional stamp counts as an extra entry!
