Joshua Yurges

Joshua Yurges I am creating a traveling pop-up art show to raise money for Syrian refugees. Each panel will be faced with reclaimed wood/lath, broken up into two parts.

I have partnered with Maine Immigrant and Refugee Services (MIRS) out of Lewiston to assist in obtaining monetary and material donations as well as having art purchases be tax deductible. The show will consist of 100 panels 11 1/2" x 23 1/2" on one wall; 4 panels high, 25 panels wide. They will be hung on sheets of plywood fastened to the wall to expedite setting up the show and repairing the wall

after it is taken down. One section left natural, the other painted black. The angle of the dissection will vary. No two panels will be alike. This will touch on
two important aspects, the uniqueness of an individual person as well as how we are all made up of and share the same fundamental elements. As the show travels from one venue to the next the arrangement will be the same. Not until after the final show will the artwork go home to its new respective owners. Each panel will be $200 and 100% of sales will go towards an organization helping refugees. If you are interested in making a tax deductible contribution to help me raise money for materials please message me. Thank you all!

Is Christian Marclay's

Is Christian Marclay's

I left Christian Marclay’s “The Clock” about twelve minutes after “High Noon.” I’d been there since about 10:30 A.M., thinking that I’d stay for about twenty minutes and get the feel of the thing; any longer, and the minutes...

Old Houses

by Robert Cording

Year after year after year
I have come to love slowly

how old houses hold themselves—

before November's drizzled rain
or the refreshing light of June—

as if they have all come to agree
that, in time, the days are no longer
a matter of suffering or rejoicing.

I have come to love
how they take on the color of rain or sun
as they go on keeping their vigil

without need of a sign, awaiting nothing

more than the birds that sing from the eaves,
the seizing cold that sounds the rafters.

'The Farm' by Joyce Sutphen, and the literary and historical notes for Monday, August 13, 2012.

Poem by Taha Muhammad Ali

And so
it has taken me
all of sixty years
to understand
that water is the finest drink,
and bread the most delicious food,
and that art is worthless
unless it plants
a measure of splendor in people's hearts.
