Today is the 83rd anniversary of Pearl Harbor. In honor of all service personnel and civilians we will set an eternal reef ball from Eternal Reef into our 2200-gallon system. This gift is remembrance of all who served, are serving, and their families and friends.

We welcome all to join us at 115 pm at the Aquarium for a moment of quiet and remembrance.

Have you met our crocodile gecko, Tic? He is a fun little guy. For a rather small critter he packs a very loud screaming noise whenever he feels the urge! Tic rests peacefully all day and does not shy from interactions with his caregivers. His homeland is Africa and the Mediteranean. For the most part he loves live bugs and the delicious liquid food supplements - the liquids let us sneak in his vitamins.

Our Story

Living in Western North Carolina, the opportunity to explore marine life from different parts of the ocean is a scarcity. That is why in 2001, Team ECCO was brought to life as a grassroots ocean learning program to reach and teach students of all ages in WNC about the ocean. This first initiative took 40 children and 10 adults on a voyage to discover manatees. Location should not be an excuse for lack of resources and knowledge, so Executive Director, Brenda Ramer decided to take action. In 2007 Team ECCO received full IRS 501 c 3 status. This status gave Team ECCO the official title of non-profit.
