James J. Nelson was born in Boone, North Carolina, October 12, 1985. Currently living in Holly, Michigan and a graduate of Northern Michigan University with a Bachelor of Fine Art with a concentration in Photography. With his 10 years of experience in the field of photography, James’ main focuses are on landscape, portrait, and both action and traditional sports photography. During James college c

areer, he had worked on a series named A Lost Time. This series was filled with decaying and abandoned objects that he found in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. James found inspiration in the work of Walker Evens whom did some work for the FSA (Farm Security Administration) during The Great Depression. Another series James has done while in college was a collaboration of photos with Brian Kroes, and Andrew Jensen. Wrong Place, Wrong Time was a series that was meant to be ironic, and pushed beyond the average expectations. The third series; Behind the Scenes, was made to challenge the viewer’s perception of studio photography. Most people have seen a finished photograph that bas been printed in magazines, online, or a wide variety of places. In this series, James was giving the viewer an insight of how many distractions are on a set, and how those distractions can make someone feel uncomfortable.
